It was never in my original plan to climb this beast, but as I neared the viewpoint at the bottom I saw this winding endless stair and immediately thought of the stairs of Cirith Ungol from the Lord of the Rings and I had to climb it to see if a cave and giant spider might be hiding at the top.
I probably overestimated my abilities as 1000 steps later and at 1010 feet, I was aching in the knees and ankles and mostly worn out, still facing the prospect of a descent (which I ended up doing quite carefully).
These are relatively steep stairs and a fall would be... very potentially fatal. That said, I am so glad I did it, both as an accomplishment, but also because of the wonderful views at the top. It took 4 days for my calves to return to normal so I hobbled around for the next few...

I recommend checking the local map at the trail entrance and making sure to follow the path carefully. Reaching the summit is straightforward, but completing the full loop can get tricky due to poorly maintained or missing signage. If you're used to hiking in Norway, you can usually follow the rock cairns for orientation. However, if you're more accustomed to well-marked routes like the Camino de Santiago or other clearly marked trails, please be extra cautious—especially if you're hiking solo, like some of us do.

My hiking sticks saved me as well as many stops along the way to the top . We chose the round way , which had a few challenging moments .
It had stunning views on the upward climb, the round walk doesn’t offer the same stunning scenery but it was good exercise.
I recommend this as my highlight .
