An absolutely beautiful hike. We did this starting at the cruise ship dock, which leads to 6mi RT with 2,000ft of climbing. To begin, I'd advise just walking up the road to the Hotel Union across from the Fjordcenter. Leave the lower cascades to your return trip as this lets you get ahead of some crowds. Once you start climbing, the trail is consistently steep, with lots of well-placed rocky steps. At the top, be sure to take the spur trail behind the waterfall which starts on the right side of the flat area at the top of the falls.

On your way back be sure to do the lower cascades by walking across to the Fjordcenter and taking the metal catwalks down to the fjord.

We had clear sunny weather, left the cruise ship first thing, and hammered up the walk giving us the top of the falls to ourselves. Just a...

Beautiful waterfall that you can walk behind. It's a moderate to strenuous hike from the farm/parking area of roughly 2.5 km or about 45-60 minutes. The hike is lovely, and the view from the top is spectacular. While there is no fee to hike, there is a parking fee at the farm. A restaurant with delicious food, friendly service, and priceless views is located at the farm as well. A great stop before or after hiking to the waterfall. They also offer takeaway sandwiches, etc, if you want to take a picnic to the top...

The trek combined with the experience of walking behind the waterfall makes for a memorable trip. The best times to visit this trail are May through October. Storseterfossen (or Storsæterfossen), Grinddalsfossen, and Geirangerfossen were the prominent waterfalls in and behind the town of Geiranger. Storseterfossen was an unusual 30m waterfall on the Vesteråselva in that it was well-hidden from the town of Geiranger while also allowing hikers to go behind it.

The track is very heavy for casual hikers but managable. Stone part of the track is made by Sherpa s and its amazing where they placed stones to make rout easier. Be aware of the earth roads, they can slide. I broke my anckle on return from the waterfall so take your time and be aware. The site it self is beautifull and breathtaking. Hiking time for begginers is ~1h:30min and 45min for more experienced hickers.
