This was a P&O cruise trip to the Briksdal Glacier. We were delayed in port due to weather so unfortunately had a very short time to get to see the glacier. The Troll Cars drop you at a point up the mountain (pick up at the cafe when you get off the coach) and then you walk up to the glacier passing beautiful waterfalls. Again you'll need good walking boots, wrap up warm and pace yourself. The terrain is unsuitable for mobility impaired and not for wheelchairs. The lake near the glacier is beautiful and obviously freezing! There's toilet facilities half way up. Again it's worth the walk but you'll suffer later due to the unevenness of the paths etc. Its gravelly and loose so take it steady. The cafe in the lodge is lovely with fresh food, cakes and refreshments with prices you'd expect but not too extortionate. They take card which helps. Great visit which I recommend.

I had never seen a glacier before - I prefer warmer climes for my summer holidays, despite living in Spain but this was a truly incredible experience. Apparently much smaller now due to global warming, the glacier is still an incredibly impressive sight. We were told that the blue colouration is due to oxygen being squeezed from the ice due to the pressure being exerted by the ice above, and that this process will continue as long as snow keeps falling and turning into yet more ice - although there is a worry that with less snowfall each year, this may not continue for ever, so go and see it while you can! There's also a reasonably priced bar/café where you can warm up if necessary, but you have to buy something to use the toilets, or pay a small surcharge.

The mountain lodge was at the base of the trail to the Briksdalsbre Glazier where the coaches park and drop you from Olden Norway. Two separate buildings one is a lovely gift shop and small simple cafe, look out the back here to see a very fast flowing river coming from the glacier. The other building is more of a restaurant with lovely cakes these and coffees are free if you came here on a cruise excursion, we didn’t , we got the bus trip in Olden to the glacier for half the price. Interestingly the toilets here are prepaid if you are on an excursion, if you are not then it’s 10krone! Great place. It was raining for us, fortunately they sell great waterproof smocks and great gifts etc.

Stayed at one of their apartments. Very modern. You can cook and wash your clothes. Very close to a river. Bed is comfortable. View is magnificent. Only complain is that the dishwasher soap was almost empty and no paper towels available. The cleaner should make sure to inform the person in charge of managing these apartments so they can refill it. Otherwise tell your guests beforehand to bring it themselves. We could buy it but the nearest grocery store is quite far. We informed the person who gave us the key but he did not text back. It is a shame. I pity the owners of this establishment when you have employees who do not care doing their job properly.

We started our "hike" to the glacier from here.(after fuelling on essential tea and strawberry cake) The footpaths or trails are all well maintained and vary from going on Foot close to the action, spray and vast waterfalls (These include steep stone steps ) or using tarmac road and gravel paths (Still steep at the end) to getting the troll cars to take you almost all the way to the top then using the relatively flat but steep gravel paths. There are many photo opportunities on the way with dramatic scenery. The volume of water coming from the snow and glacial melt was nothing short of impressive and refreshing on a warm day when the spray hits you.

We have been here 5 years ago. At that time we had hiked to the bren in the late evening and light rain. While we've been almost alone. This time we visited the much shorter glacier tongue in light clouds and pleasant summer temperatures, but way more visitors. From the parking lot it is a 3 km hike to the glacier. If you don't want to walk, you can drive about 2 km with the troll cars for 260 NOK (round trip per person). In order to avoid waiting times, it is worthwhile to reserve them in advance. It's a great trip for kids. Not to far. But it's very touristic too! We definitely found more "nature" in other places.
