Absolutely amazing. We went from Olden Cruise port, catching the 115 bus, which only cost £7.15 for a family of 4. The bus left the cruise terminal at 10:05 and took approximately 40 mins to get the start of the walk. Two service buses are available if enough people are waiting at the port. I was with my 5 and 7 year old and they managed the walk up in 40 mins. The path is a compressed gravel path, trainers are more than suitable for the walk. There are a couple of sets of steps, which are fairly simple with good hand rails. Walking is by far the best way to see all the waterfalls and means you see the best of the sights, which are stunning. The walk down takes slightly less time, about 30mins. There are picnic benches along the side of the paths at regular intervals. The service bus waits whilst you are on the glacier and leaves at 13:30, meaning you have plenty of time and cost another £7.15 for two adults and two children on the return journey. There are toilets available at the bottom of the walk on the shop/cafe. Amazing views, amazing value for money, amazing day, amazing photo opportunities! Would...
Read moreOne of the most magnificent sights I have ever seen. You cannot comprehend the massive size of the glacier until you are standing right beneath it. This glacier is still accessible for people who cannot walk much. I brought my parents via troll car which is a fun ride and takes you within 700m of the glacier along flat ground (recommend to make a reservation in advance which you can do by submitting the form on their site with no deposit). Also as a tip if you are coming from Olden, it is super easy to take the public glacier bus from the port which is clean, well managed, takes you on one of the most beautiful bus rides in the world and costs much much less than any shuttle/excursion bus that you can book through a tour company. The public bus leaves from the port at around 10.15 in the morning (just buy tickets on the bus using card which cost around £2 pp), takes you to the glacier and waits there to take you back at around 1.30pm. Highly highly recommend this as a must see if you are...
Read moreA breathtaking walk to the glacier is a must if you are in the area. If visiting by a cruise ship, just be aware you can catch the local bus service (there is 1 bus a day that goes to the Glacier) which is fraction of the cost of one of the organisaed tours (Approx £5 each way for 2 adults). When you arrive at the Glacier centre, you can either walk to the Glacier (recommend good trainers or walking boots) or get the troll cars. There are 2 paths, 1 is quite steep particulay at the beginning but it does level out. The other path looks like it is supposed to be for the troll cars so is quite flat in comparison! We saw many people walking along the flat path, a number with push chairs. It is sad to see the markers on the way up to the glacier on where it used to be and how with climate change the glacier has shrunk over many years. The view of the glacier is worth the walk. Total walk takes arround 40-45 minutes each way. Plenty of time to get...
