Our hike to Trolltunga was on July 2 with our family of 6. Our children are 8, 9, 13, 15. My husband and oldest daughter are experienced hikers but we chose to break the hike up into two days with the overnight stay for our youngest kids and it was the right call. Took us 7.5 hours to reach camp and 5.5 hours down to P3 the following day. (P2 to P3 is just a steep climb on an asphalt road that we happily skipped.)
Our one and only guide was Synne, who was an absolute delight and pleasure to have and she wore many hats: a fantastic cheerleader, informational guide, provider of all the sweet snacks, wonderful conversationalist for our kids, amazing cook and cleaner at camp, and a treasured acquaintance we hope to reconnect with again one day. Her sunny disposition and positive attitude was the perfect complement for our family. We were very fortunate with fantastic weather and took advantage with a dip in the glacial lake up top, which Synne described as, "a bit refreshing!" Our 13 year old hiked with a low grade fever but something about either the fresh mountain air, a good sweat, the hearty reindeer stew, the icy polar plunge or the knee weakening photos on the famous rock ledge had her better by the time she came back down. I would easily say the highlight was the overnight camp- it was the cherry on top that we never knew we needed. The views alone surrounding camp... breathtakingly surreal. But it also allowed us to experience Trolltunga before and after all the crowds and we felt like we had the entire place to ourselves. And something about sitting around a bonfire on reindeer skins, surrounded by majestic mountains and glaciers makes s'mores taste all the better. Synne brought us breakfast in bed consisting of a hearty bowl of oatmeal and coffee/ hot chocolate before we packed up and made the trek out. TIP: bring many layers of clothing as the weather can turn drastically and very quickly. We hiked up in shorts and hiked down in every layer we packed and parkas would've been nice if we had them. Rain is the norm. Sleep masks and bathing suits are a good idea this time of year too.
DO NOT hesitate to book if you are on the fence about a guided hike with Trolltunga Adventures. It can be done any way, but we don't think we would have been able to squeeze out every last enjoyable drop of this experience had we just done it by ourselves. Thank you TA and thank you, Synne for our...
Read moreWe did our hike ~1 month ago but I was reviewing my photos & videos from the trip and was feeling really compelled to leave a review here for our 3 lovely guides - Synne, Viktor and Albert ❤️❤️❤️
Coming from a country with no mountains (Singapore), I was really struggling with the uphill parts of the hike. However, our 3 guides and the group we were hiking with (coming from Australia, US and all over Europe) were really kind and kept asking if they could help in any way ❤️
This is actually my second time hiking Trolltunga, but the first time was without a guided tour so my friends and I did the whole thing round trip from P2 in 1 day and it was tiring as hell and left me saying #neveragain 7 years ago but here I am again 7 years later with another group of friends who made the smart decision to go with a guided tour (I’m still friends with those I hiked with 7 years ago 🤣). For seasoned hikers, Trolltunga is probably a nice and challenging hike that can be completed without guides. But there were really fit people in our group who chose to join a guided tour and I can see that they enjoyed the company as well!
With Trolltunga Adventures, we started from P3 (saved ~450m of pure rock incline as compared to starting from P2) and there’s 2 days to complete the entire hike. Plus, staying overnight at the campsite was truly a rare experience for someone who grew up in a city.
Our 3 guides took really good care of the whole group & as I was really lagging behind, our guides took turns to make sure nobody was left behind. I also lost my footing on a slippery rock on day 1 and my right foot was starting to feel uncomfortable at some angles on Day 2 (thankfully no sharp pain) so I asked one of our guides (tack så mycket Viktor!) to bandage it up to provide more support for me to make it down the mountain with my own 2 legs. We felt really well taken care of overall!
Tip (what I regretted not doing): Really try to train up as much as possible before the hike to enjoy the hike more!
Maybe I’ll do Trolltunga the 3rd time 7 years later? 🤔 (and hopefully fitter)
Disclaimer: Not everyone from Singapore is as...

First of all it will be very tiring regardless of how you approach the mountain, how ever many breaks you take etc. Be prepared to push yourself to your limits.
That being said the guides with Trolltunga adventures made the process as comfortable as it can be for 10km mountain hike. They were very concious of the varying skill levels in the group and made sure we took enough breaks along the way - you don't feel awkward asking for a break slowing people down - the guides understand and take breaks without you having to ask.
Everytime we took a break they provided energy boosting snacks such chocolates and biscuits, they didn't rush us at all (we get there when we get there) and ensured everyone was good to go before embarking on the journey again.
The camp is spectacular - secluded from the crowds and with an amazing view overlooking the lake. Everyone got their own private tent and there was even a toilet tent so you don't have to worry about bathroom issues. The tents were comfortable with super warm sleeping bags (almost too warm) so don't worry about if you're going to get cold at night while you're trying to sleep. A bonfire was set up when we got the camp where we got to make s'mores and have some hot drinks. A great way to end the day.
The food - out of this world. We started off with sandwiches for lunch which were delicious followed by the reindeer stew you see in the pictures which was absolutely delicious - to the point where you're surprised you can eat so well on a mountain. Restaurant quality food where people were asking for seconds. When you wake up coffee is ready along with breakfast.
Overall I want to thank our guides for making possible for me what I'd never imagine i would be able to do. It was a great experience and would recommend it...
