Read moreThe 3.5 hour drive from Muscat which includes a stretch of non gravelled trail and some sharp bends is made worthwhile when you reach the plateau called the 'Grand Canyon'. I just took a day trip but I'm sure if you reach at around 4 pm and stay overnight it would be a beautiful experience. The Canyon's rock formations are pretty unique to this region. Camping under the skies would definitely be something I wish I had tried. I wish there had been a couple of restrooms here. Also make sure you carry your own food and water if you are not staying in the resorts. There was no restaurant or general utilities shop in sight till you reach the base and travel a bit. The temperature was around 18 degrees C even at noon but the sun is very sharp and stinging at that altitude. But nights could be cold. Do visit this interesting landscape over a weekend if you are staying in Muscat for...

Visited on 11th February and absolutely loved the breathtaking views of the canyon! The weather was freezing, with the temperature around 11°C during the day and close to ground frost in the early morning. This spot, at an elevation of 2,000 meters above sea level, is perfect for enjoying cool weather.
The roads leading up are quite steep with hairpin turns, but normal cars can make it without much trouble. However, expect some muddy patches near the SAMA resort exit. Make sure to take the same resort exit to access this stunning viewpoint.
There’s also a small café at the viewpoint, which is a nice touch for a quick snack or warm drink while taking in the incredible scenery. Highly recommend it for nature lovers and...
