High up in Jebel Shams, very near the start of the two main hiking trails is stars house, an unbelievably friendly newly built guesthouse with well appointed rooms (TV, aircon, electricity, hot shower) for mountain accommodation. The rooms represent excellent value and are literally half the price of similar options in the area. The owner Ali became like family to us and he and his son Ahmed showed us such hospitality and made it so easy for us to access the wonders of Jebel shams, that we actually decided to re-vist with another friend a week later. We didn't have a car but once we make contact with Ali he arranged everything for us, collecting us from Nizwah, and the second time even helping us arrive from Muscat!From collecting us, taking us to the hiking trail points, to feeding us, supplying us with local coffee and dates, to arranging our onward travel at the end - I can honestly say that the real stars at stars house are Ali and his family! The hiking there is mind blowing, with an easy 2-3h hike, to a more challenging full day 7-9h hike. So get in touch with Ali, or make a booking and get ready for true hospitality set in real...

We spent two nights at Stars House and had a most enjoyable time. The room and bathroom bed were very clean, the bed was comfortable and there was plenty of hot water. The only minor problem was that there was no spray head on the shower. Ali, the owner, was very friendly and helpful, even driving us to the start of the balcony walk. He certainly added to our enjoyment of the visit. The basic, home cooked meals were substantial.|If your main focus is on hiking and exploring the magnificent scenery, and all you need is a place to stay, Stars House is ideal. However, if you like a bit of luxury and want spend time just relaxing In a resort, this may not be the best place for you. |We would certainly stay here again if we came back to the region.|Two things to note.
