Dhow Factory in Sur is a fascinating place that offers a glimpse into Oman’s rich maritime history. While the indoor exhibition is relatively small, it presents a well-curated selection of artifacts that tell captivating stories of the country's seafaring past. Visitors can see authentic relics from old boats, ship fragments, steering wheels, and other historical pieces that provide insight into traditional shipbuilding.

One of the highlights is the opportunity to observe models of dhows under construction, which reveal intricate details of their craftsmanship. Outside, the experience becomes even more immersive, as visitors can step onto real boats, including a massive vessel still in the process of being built. Walking on the beams beneath the deck and exploring the structure up close allows you to fully appreciate the scale and complexity of these magnificent ships. However, we wouldn’t recommend this part of the visit for children, as it can be unsafe.

To complete the experience, there is also a small souvenir shop where visitors can purchase unique maritime-themed gifts. Overall, Dhow Factory is a must-visit for history and boat enthusiasts, offering an educational and memorable...

The Dhow Factory in Sur is not a polished tourist attraction—it’s a working shipyard where traditional wooden dhows are repaired and built. Don’t expect anything fancy: you’ll mainly see boats sitting on the sand, tools scattered around, and workers going about their day. If you’re not particularly interested in boats, this may not feel very special.

There is also a small museum, though I can’t recommend or critique it fairly since we didn’t go inside—it didn’t really catch our attention from the outside.

What makes the area worth a stop, though, is the setting. The factory is located in a picturesque part of Sur, with views of the sea, old watchtowers, and the bridge. For me, the most memorable part was not the boats themselves, but the atmosphere: children playing by the water, teenagers hanging out, families gathering under the bridge. It felt like a window into everyday life in Sur, not just a tourist stop.

So while the Dhow Factory itself may not be an essential visit unless you’re passionate about maritime heritage, the surrounding area offers a glimpse of local life that can be just...

located on the right side of the Khor Al-Batah bridge in Wilayat Sur . This place may be the last remaining part of the maritime history that tells of the greatness of the Omani people. In the city of Sur , the greatest captains and carpenters were born, who built a fleet of ancient merchant ships. It is very important that this place be kept alive and that the last skilled carpenter should leave his skill to another generation. My Review of this place does not depend only that this place is small and not worth a visit or there is not much to see for you. I Advise the factory owner that it was important that there be a guide tell about the past, the great history, and the sailing ships Built in this As they say (Al-Butah Bay is not just a sea route, but history is written in it) Visiting the place requires an entry fee - there is also show room to buy...
