Hawiyat Najm Park — Attraction in Muscat Governorate

The Bimmah Sinkhole is a very beautiful sinkhole about 200 meters inland from the Gulf of Oman. In this sinkhole, fresh water is mixed with sea water giving it a wonderful color. People can go swimming in this sinkhole of camp by its side. This area is very well sign posted from the highway and can not be missed. Bimmah Sinkhole is a deep natural depression filled with water, called Hawiyat Najm. The locals say that a meteor fell on this spot of land, resulting in the natural depression and forming a small lake. This place is one of a kind. It is around an hour away from muscat by car. It is a sinkhole in the ground near a beach and the salt water got into the hole. There is a park around it. It is nice for a half a day trip. But swimmers beware this place has no lifeguards and swimming there is on ones own responsibility. The deepest parts of the sink hole are 90 meters deep! I am an experienced swimmer I had paplitatations swimming near the deep side! You can really see where the water gets darker! Be sure to bring snacks with you the nearest resturant is a fast food place in a petrol station about 15 or 20 minutes...

Sink Hole located about 120 Kms from Muscat and further 20 Kms from Quriyat ......is an amazing wonder in Oman....Very popular amongst tourists.....the water is emerald green deep down in a gorge in the centre of small park like enclosure, approach road is difficult to locate from highway unless u have been there earlier...Public restrooms are FILTHY, dirty......especially during peak tourist hours.....Carry your own drinking water/ snacks if u care....Nearest facility is a Oman Oil petrol station....Must visit...
