Padmanabhapuram palace is a scenic and peaceful place to visit if you're interested in Kerala architecture and heritage or if you're a fan of Manichithrathazhu. The palce is located at Kanyakumari district around 1.30 - 2 hrs of travelling from trivandrum. It's not open on Mondays and there's a lunch time of about 2 hours (12 30 - 2 I think) so do take note of that. Other things to consider while visiting - 🔸Chapals are not allowed inside the premises. So you have to give them 15 rupees (for each box if I remember correctly) to keep your footwear. 🔸Photography is allowed inside with a 10 rupee ticket for mobile camera but videography is prohibited. 🔸Do visit early as the staff there rushes you when it gets closer to the closing time which is 5 : 30. 🔸There's a small museum outside with photographs and other items. Do visit that before the palace if possible to understand the context a little bit more. 🔸Several areas inside the palce and in the gardens are blocked and you can't enter there. Mostly, the areas made only of wood are blocked because of precaution as it can't handle too much weight. 🔸There's a canteen inside the palace which has snacks, ice cream and such - not very hygienic. 🔸There's also pay and use toilet inside but remember you can't wear your chapals inside 🥲 🔸Pay and use toilets are available outside the palace too. And they accept Google Pay. 🔸Parking is available in front of the gate, but there's a fee for that too (10 rupees for bikes) 🔸Tickets for adults cost 50 rupees. All things considered, a great place to visit!

A Masterpiece of Traditional Kerala Architecture Visiting Padmanabhapuram Palace was like stepping back in time to experience the grandeur of the Travancore kingdom. This 16th-century wooden palace is an absolute marvel of traditional Kerala craftsmanship and architecture. **What impressed me most:** - The intricate woodwork throughout the palace is breathtaking - every pillar, ceiling, and doorway tells a story - The Thai Kottaram (Mother's Palace) with its stunning rosewood carvings and antique Chinese jars - The four-storied mansion showcasing the brilliant engineering skills of ancient craftsmen - The well-preserved artifacts, including ancient weapons, furniture, and artwork - The beautiful courtyard and the serene atmosphere that transports you to another era **Practical tips:** - Allow at least 2-3 hours for a complete tour - The guided tour is highly recommended to understand the historical significance - Photography restrictions in certain areas, so respect the guidelines - footwear is not allowed inside the palace. The palace stands as a testament to the rich cultural heritage of Kerala and the architectural brilliance of the Travancore rulers. Despite being centuries old, the preservation efforts are commendable. This is a must-visit destination for history enthusiasts, architecture lovers, and anyone interested in Kerala's royal past. A truly enriching experience that beautifully showcases South Indian palace architecture at its finest!

Nestled amidst lush greenery, Padmanabhapuram Palace stands as a timeless testament to Kerala's rich architectural and cultural heritage. As you step through its ornate gates, you're transported back in time to an era of regal splendor and grandeur. The palace's intricate wooden carvings and exquisite mural paintings are a sight to behold, each telling a story of bygone days and royal extravagance. From the majestic throne room to the tranquil courtyard gardens, every corner of the palace exudes a sense of serenity and grace. Exploring the labyrinthine corridors and opulent chambers is a journey through history, offering a glimpse into the lives of the royals who once called this place home. The attention to detail in the design and craftsmanship is truly awe-inspiring, leaving visitors marveling at the palace's architectural brilliance. However, while the palace itself is a marvel to behold, some visitors may find the lack of modern amenities and interpretive signage to be a drawback. Additionally, the limited accessibility for differently-abled visitors may pose challenges for some. Overall, Padmanabhapuram Palace is a must-visit destination for history enthusiasts and culture aficionados alike. Its timeless beauty and historical significance make it a treasure trove of Kerala's past, offering a fascinating glimpse into the region's rich and vibrant heritage.

A must visit place if you are near Kanyakumari or Nagercoil or even in Trivandrum which is hardly 50 kms away from the location. The palace is an architectural marvel with a lot of history around it. As per records, the original palace was completed early 16 th century and was renovated around 1750 by his highness Marthanda Varma of the Travancore Royal Family. The oldest of the constructions date back to around 1550 while the latest additions to the complex were made not later than 1850....
