Playa Blanca — Attraction in Coclé

This was my first visit to Playa Blanca Beach Resort, and overall, it was a very positive experience.

Bottom line: If you’re expecting a 5-star resort, you’ll be disappointed. If you come with 3-star expectations, you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

The real scoop: We stayed in an ocean-view room near the pool. It was spacious, clean, and had comfortable beds. The only service hiccup was that the TV didn’t work initially, and we had to call reception three times before it was fixed. Otherwise, service was smooth. The shower had consistently hot water, and housekeeping cleaned the room daily.

Staff service was excellent. My girlfriend made what I thought was a very unreasonable request, yet the staff delivered without hesitation. In the restaurants and main dining hall, the staff were always welcoming and attentive. The only less-than-friendly face we encountered was the young lady handing out towels at the pool.

As for food, I’ve read some reviews claiming the buffet lacked variety. I honestly don’t know what those reviewers are comparing it to—there were easily 50+ items to choose from at every meal, with something for everyone. Breakfasts and lunches were consistently satisfying.

For dinner, we opted for the reservation-only restaurants. Although we were told reservations must be made in the morning, on the night we arrived we walked up to the seafood restaurant and were accommodated immediately. Every meal we had there was excellent.

Some reviews mentioned “dogs running all over the place.” In my three-day stay, I saw exactly two: one resting under a beach lounge chair, and the other sitting quietly by the pool. Both were friendly and bothered no one.

The beach is attractive, with plenty of lounge chairs and shaded cabanas. The pool was cleaned daily. Landscaping was well-maintained by Panama standards. The tennis court was usable but clearly worn. Overall, the resort is very clean, though some areas could use a fresh coat of paint.

I’m glad I didn’t read too many negative reviews before coming -otherwise, I might have skipped this place, and that would have been my loss. I enjoyed my stay and plan to return in...

Fuí a este establecimiento en el mes de Junio con mi familia. Y desafortunadamente, al llegar al lobby, un miembro del staff nos preguntó inmediatamente por nuestro estado civil y si contamos con tarjeta de créditos entre otras cosas, no tomando en cuenta que recién llegamos y que estamos cansados del viaje. Este caballero nos quería vender alguna propiedad dentro del complejo, asumo del área de residentes de este resort. Nos pareció una falta de respeto y poca cordialidad de su parte. La insistencia fue tanta que simplemente tuvimos que darle un alto a este individuo y que porfavor nos mostrara nuestras habitaciones. Al llegar a mi habitación doble, me percato que hay agua en el suelo, proveniente del aire acondicionado y al sentarme en mi cama noto una mancha en la sábana que parece sangre y al revisar debajo del duvet veo cabellos muy largos. Me dió por revisar la otra cama y veo arena y unas sábanas que definitivamente no son limpias. Como compartía el cuarto con mi hermana ambas fuímos a la recepción para informarles del estado en que nos entregaron la habitación. El personal que nos atendió, sólo se disculpó ligeramente y nos ofreció otra habitación la cuál aceptamos. Éste si tenía sábanas limpias. Pero, los alrededores de este cuarto támbien contaban con visibles faltas de mantenimiento. ( Muy obvias al ojo). Mi familia y yo pasamos gran parte de nuestra estadía en la playa, descansando en las sillas del resort. Para la mala fortuna de una de mis hermanas fué el de pisar una rama muy espinosa de alrededor de 1 pulgada que estaba cubierta de arena. Lo bueno fue que ninguno de los 3 niños (de dos y tres años) fueron víctimas de esta rama. Se le llamó al salvavidas para que auxiliara a mi hermana, ya que la rama había penetrando profundamente su talón. La atención fue pronta y oportuna. Y la clinica del resort le realizó una curación a mi hermana. Lo negativo es que el personal que se encarga de hacer la limpieza en los predios de esta área simplemente no están haciendo su trabajo debidamente. Ellos supuestamente limpian a diario el área de la playa. Sé que la playa es un lugar enorme y que las mareas traen objetos no deseados pero donde estábamos nosotros es el área donde están las sillas, lejos del mar. En general apesar de estos acontecimientos negativos, la hora de la comida siempre fue bienvenida ya que era muy buena, pero lamentablemente mi mamá mientras comía de un tamal se encontró con un gran pedazo de plástico. Nuestras vacaciones resultaron una semana de quejas y muy poco disfrute, por las numerosas anomalías de este lugar. Simplemente queríamos irnos, ya que nuestra intención fue de gozar con la familia en un lugar ameno y no de perder nuestro tiempo en quejas.(se supone que está tácito y sobre entendido de que un hotel debe de mantener buenos estadares de mantenimiento e higiene y no el cliente tener que hacerles las observaciones.) Agradezco al staff del Buffet, por su muy cordial y atentas atenciones y espero que el personal encargado de mantenimiento, supervisión y gerencia, tomen en cuenta este mensaje. We stayed three nights, the first room they assigned us was on the third floor no elevators, I have a bad knee can't walk up. The second room was so dirty the floor looked like it has not been mopped for days, and I don't even want to talk about the bathroom. The third room was dirty and not acceptable as the second. The fourth room we had to wait while they mopped the room, and cleaned it; the whole ordeal of checking-in took us over an hour and half. On top of everything that went wrong we were overcharged, and they were not willing to refund any portion of our payment. For the same money I recommend the next door hotel which has a similar name only different it has RIU in front of it, which is truly a five star location.
