We visited Playa Farallon, next to playa Blanca in September. It was fairly clean throughout the beach, and quiet during the week. The weekends bring more visitors. There are only a handful of restaurants serving cocktails and beer to choose from on the beach, and another few behind the beach inland. The water was OK to swim, warm with some waves, and not clear, so its better for the more confident swimmer. The sand is soft and a mix from beige to black depending on which end of the long stretch you are. It can take about 40 minutes to walk the length of the beach. the west end near the river mouth next to Playa Blanca feels more local and run-down, and the east side is newer with high rise resorts. The area is dominated by Resorts & high rises, so there is little choice in terms of budget or moderate priced accommodation. The 'cheaper' hotels or hostels are in fact quite expensive in comparison to the rest of the country's beach properties (for $50-60 USD/night). It was easy to get to Playa Farallon along the IntraAmericana highway from Panama City or David, with Coach bus getting off on request to exit Farallon, then walking across to the smaller bus stop and hailing a small public white bus marked "Farallon" for $0.50 usd - 0.75 each or taxi $3 usd total, to the beach (less than 10 minutes from the Farallon...

Highlights include transfixing peach and pink shells, high soaring frigate birds, sweet cafes and no too significant a crowd.
