What a depressing place honestly I have no idea why it has such high ratings. It was a stop on the Anton valley tour and I was mortified. While their reptiles are in good condition the larger animals live in squalor. The cages for the large animals are small, cement and lack of hiding places. The tapir they have is in an extremely small enclosure with a tiny incredibly dirty pool no where near large enough for this aquatic 300 pound animal. The jaguar enclosure was very small, no hides and a cement floor with a tiny bit of mud and grass. There was a tayra with an injured foot limping in it's cage, unable to climb. There was a coyote pacing in a small cemet cage. With no other friends or even a hide, he paces staring at the many camersa flashing at him. What broke my heart the most was a coyote dog hybrid in a cage. All he wanted was to cuddle and to play. He resembled a puppy at a pet shop, trying to get as much human contact as possible whilw behind a cage. I would not reccomend this zoo. EDIT: I've noticed most of the local guides have been giving it 4 or 5 stars. DO NOT LISTEN. Cruel...

A nice but basic zoo to visit, there are multiple animals kept at quite basic conditions. Many farm animals and birds also. The cages seem sometimes too small for the animals, it's a bit difficult to get around the perimeter and the cages are made mostly from a very dense grid metal fence that just makes it very hard to see the animals. But still, overall it's a nice place to visit, you get to see crocodiles, monkeys, jaguars and more.

Important: Bring a bug repellant spray. Price: 18$ for 2 adults and 2 children. There is a single toilet near the entrance. Not crowded. Most of the time you walk on grass, that might be wet during the rainy season. The visit would take you about an hour. Some basic snacks can be bought near the entrance. A good combination with this zoo visit would be a short one hour hike of the square trees path that is only a few minutes drive from there: "Square Trees Nature Trail...

Went to the „zoo“ 2 days ago. Horrified! When you come in, chickens and rabbits in cages, on bare metal mesh, no straw, no grass, are for sale. Then a huge area of potted plants for sale. Animals kept in bare, small cages. Some clean, some not. Nothing to mimic a natural surrounding in their cages. Generally the food seen in the cages was mostly dried corn, no sunflower seeds, no peanuts, no fresh veggies or fruit. The water baths for caiman, pigs, tapirs, etc. were either empty or the water was foul! The reptile exhibits, bare, foul. The garden were kept really well and clean. From this I suggest, be compassionate to these living creatures, sell them to a better place and just open a public garden instead. I cannot understand how such little respect for a living creature or lack of knowledge would be seen as a positive feature by so many people writing reviews here. Is everyone oblivious to the need of...

This was an exciting place to visit. Granted, it feels like it took forever to make it to the valley where this is located. The zoo can be hard to find if you drive yourself and you or your tour guide is not familiar with the area. I loved seeing all the animals there. Different types of falcons and eagles, raccoons, frogs, spiders, ostriches, emus, pigs, chickens, turkeys, turtles, lizards, regular and white peacocks, goats, coyotes, and some more animals that I am probably missing. I wouldn't take a special trip just to see this zoo. If you don't have some other business up there I would visit a zoo someplace closer to the city because it's a trek to get up into the valley. It's full of winding roads. Beautiful view headed out there though. I'm glad we did it.

Entrance fee for nationals was $4 and for tourists $6. There is parking place just in front of it. It's a decent zoo with some variety of animals. You have to adjust your expectations though because you will be mostly seeing different types of birds and other feather friends. Just a few 'exotic' animals which is a disappointment, having in mind the rich fauna of Panama with so many species of mammals, reptiles and amphibians. The farm-style of the zoo is a positive thing. The poor maintenance is not. Half of the signs with the names of the animals is barely visible. Animals seem hungry and the guard feeding them seemed even more hungry. Seems like the fee money is going somewhere else because it's definitely not going into the zoo maintenance or the employees.
