Great hike if you love the outdoors. It took my partner and I around 2 to 2.5 hours to complete it (going up and down). There are other longer trails you can hike that take you to a different ending point than the one you start at. Try not to weigh yourself down with too many things to carry, a small backpack is all right. The entry fee is $3 per person, if I remember correctly. There are vendors along the hiking path that sell beverages as well. I'd recommend going between 07:00 to 14:00, no later. You don't want to get caught going back down the hiking path while the sun is setting and you don't have enough light to see. The hiking path is a bit rough and wet in some areas, so wear shoes with enough grip/traction. There are a few spots where you have to climb rocks, but nothing too crazy. As always in Panama, apply sunscreen and mosquito repellent. The only small complaint I would have is that the trail isn't marked out that great. But the vendors along the way can help direct you or you can just follow along with some of the other people also doing the hike. It was a bit busier than I would have thought, but not so busy that you feel you're constantly...
Read moreDress with loose clothing that does not stick to the skin and allows you to bend your legs properly. It is tropical, so it will be muggy and buggy. The trail is challenging. There is a lot of loose rocks that are slipping hazards and also slippery sections. Bring a sturdy walking stick and about two liters of water. The last part of the trek required climbing on rocky sides with dangerous cliffs. The views are breath taking. Flora and fauna are great. We saw a variety of birds including and an eagle and monkeys. I'm 67 years old and, at least, I can say that I climbed the...
Read moreAbsolutely a must do hike in this area. 1.5 miles uphill with about 300 m elevation gain. The way back was very muddy and slippery. We considered making it into a loop, but the other way down from the top turned out too slippery for our shoes. My trail running shoes had insufficient grip. The views from the top are absolutely incredible. We did the hike on Dec 31, and the weather cleared up after 3 pm. When foggy, there will be no good views though. Only at the top do you realize the valley is inside a crater of a volcano, and you are...
