La Casita de Don Daniel — Hotel in El Valle

Really friendly and helpful owners are just one of the reasons to visit this little gem. As well as your comfortable room you have access to a fully equipped kitchen to prepare anything from a coffee to complete meals, several lounging areas to eat your food and a nice garden with a stream, and hammocks to enjoy them from. If you are feeling energetic the trailhead for the famous India Dormida hike is only 200 metres away and well worth if if you like waterfalls,mountain pools and spectacular views. The town centre is a 15-20 stroll away but there are many little shops much closer for basic supplies and snacks. If you want to explore further afield why not borrow one of the mountain bikes that are included with your room. In the evening (or whenever) Don Daniel is always up for a music session with guitars and a keyboard on hand and enough drums and percussion instruments to allow everyone to take part. The host Ariel is very kind. There was no hot water in the first morning to take a hot shower to wake up and warm up for a hike. I am Ok having one bad start, but the 2nd morning, the kitchen is locked still at 8:00, so I can't access my breakfast or coffee or anything that I bought so I had to walk 20 minutes to town to buy a cup of coffee and breakfast instead of drinking the coffee and eating the food that I already paid for at the hostel. A terrible morning makes for a rough day. All I expect is a warm shower and my own coffee in the morning. Stay elsewhere if you like to wake up properly in the morning. It is good that we were able to check out a day early and be refunded for the night we did not stay. I appreciate that. It is too bad the kitchen opens so late, because it would otherwise be OK to stay and enjoy the kind owner. The location would be OK if I didn't have to walk so...

The host, Ariel, is such a kind and helpful person, we felt like home. He helped us with many plans in El Valle, but also across whole Panama and showed us some nice places to go.

We had also enjoyable evenings with music sessions and singing. There is no doubt: If you are in el valle, go there!

But do not expect luxury or fanciness. It is a place to enjoy nature, good music and great company.
