We didn't take a tour. Bus from boquete is 2.50 and just say pipeline in English. 3 dollars to take the trail itself and 2.50 back again on bus. Taxi would be 8 dollars one way.
The trail up is very easy but go in the morning and go when it's not raining if you can. It was raining for us and a tour guide told us that you will hardly see any wildlife in those conditions. It was still worth doing as it was beautiful to be in the jungle and the waterfall at the end is lovely. You'll know you've reached the end when there is a cliff and waterfall blocking your path. It takes about 1.5 hours up. More if you sit and are patient watching for wildlife. Took us 45 mins back down again.
I've read it's a good trail for the elderly but unless you're fit I wouldn't advise it. If you're young and unfit you'll be fine though. To be honest anyone willing to go on a hike must realise it's not a walk in the park. But it's definitely the easiest of the trails and very doable for most people...
Read moreEveryone says this is a nice easy trail. I have no idea what they are talking about. I'm a very fit 50 yr old and it was uphill on a very rocky path half the way and a less rocky but still difficult path where you need to watch your step. It might not be as steep and muddy as the 3 waterfall trail but I was out of breath after the first hour and still didn't reach the waterfall even after 1 hr 20 min. Unless you really like fast will take almost 2 hrs to reach the waterfall which is not that impressive. Lots of bubbling brooks along the way and nice crossings. We didn't see a single bird despite the beautiful weather, nor monkeys or any other fauna. If you go on this hike it's for the atmosphere, the jungle view, the beautiful flora and trees and bromeliads growing out of them. Plan for MINIMUM 3 hrs and more expensive than people say. The lady who owns the land now asks for $5/pp (everyone posts $3/pp) and the taxi from Boquete will...
Read moreModerately easy hike through the jungle. To get there we took the bus from the town up to the beginning of the trail. There you pay 5$ and ‘sign in’ by giving some basic information. The hike is one trail up and down so you can’t get lost. Whilst there isn’t much wildlife, the trees and plants are stunning. Particular highlights are the 1000 year old tree, and the beautiful waterfall that marks the end of the trail - a great place to dip your head under and cool down before returning.
The whole hike we kept our heads up to find a quetzal and our attempts paid off when we saw one fly past the 1000 year old tree ( apparently there’s a nest inside it) and later on when a group before us had spotted one sat in a tree next to the trail. They had spotted it by recognising the sound of it and then stopping to locate it so if you’re hoping to find one yourself then do your research on how they sound! It’s a beautiful animal and a...
