Museo Regional de Veraguas — Attraction in Santiago

There are three things to note about this museum. First, one of the exhibits is contemporary art. Second, the permanent exhibit comprises of relics. And third, I would not have noticed but the complimentary tour guide mentioned the facility used to be a jail. Three different aspects all rolled into one.

The first room houses contemporary art. I was amazed to see three paintings by art icon Changmarin. One of his paintings include humanized animals which could possibly be influenced from cultural folklore.

The second room includes relics from pre-columbian period from the areas of Azuero Peninsula and local Veraguas province. Included are pottery, cultural household utensils, ceramics, vases, petroglyphs, fossils and more.

An interesting part of history with regard to the former jail is that the holding room still exists. It is a small holding room where those arrested were detained before being further indicted. Also, the courtyard is where the inmates had their moments under the sun.

Overall, the place is very clean and well-maintained. Strange that some of the signs are in Spanish and others in English. The only bad thing is that some of the rock carvings are simply replicas, not originals. Same thing applies to the gold ceramics....

Lastimosamente, fui un domingo y resulta que los días domingo están cerrados. Algo que me parece desacertado ya que, es un día en dónde la familia completa puede salir y realizar una visita a esos sitios culturales. Entiendo que es un sitio auspiciado por el municipio, Pero se debería tomar en cuenta la provisión para atender el turismo los días...
