The University of San Carlos (USC or colloquially shortened to San Carlos) is a private Catholic research university in Cebu City, Philippines which is administered by the Society of the Divine Word (SVD) missionaries since 1935. It provides basic education (Montessori academy, grade school, junior high school, and senior high school), undergraduate and graduate studies higher education. USC is among the biggest university in Cebu City with 5 campuses which have a combined land area of 90 hectares (Talamban campus has 80 hectares with a wide area for expansion and development of university physical facilities) It is ranked top four nationwide and top one in the Visayas and Mindanao with the most number of centers of excellence (8 COEs) and centers of development (12 CODs) recognized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) as of March 2016. USC is also one of the few universities in the country ranked by the International/Asia Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Rating as among the Top 350 Universities in Asia as of 2016 (USC is the lone Cebu based university and one of the universities in the Visayas and Mindanao cited by QS Asia as among internationally recognized universities in the Philippines)] USC is ranked by Scopus as top 8th university in the Phils. with the most number of indexed research publications as of 2018.[7] The university is certified with International Standards Organization (ISO) 9001:2015 Quality Management System for Institutional and Student Support Services as of September 2017 by Technischer Uberwachungsverein (TUV) Sud Asia Pacific. USC has about 22,000 students (otherwise called Carolinians) of which more than 200 are international students, enrolled in basic education, collegiate undergraduate and graduate programs and served by about 1,100 academic faculty and staff with a teacher to student ratio of 1:20. About 600 Carolinian students are academic scholars, 200 working student scholars and 300 non-academic scholars (e.g. athletic & sports, cultural & performing arts).

I didn't attend this campus but I was forced to go here since all our paperwork goes to this branch. When I arrived they wanted to charge me for printing my grades which I will get after 1 week. I was leaving the country before then and they told me to ask for the head of their department to see if they can expedite the process. When I got to their office they said no one with any authority will be available for the next two days since they are having their annual meeting and no one will be there on Monday as well since it was a holiday. Total mismanagement. For a university you would think they would be smart enough to know that you should always leave someone in charge but then it was like this 5 years ago so I guess I should not be surprised. This campus has a nice ambiance though.

USC is really one the best in universities in Cebu, from facilities and instruction to research. Professors are very qualified and demanding and they offer a fun and fulfilling learning environment. Tuition is higher than most universities in the area, and misc. fees are also expensive. Admissions start early so you'll need to inquire at least two months before the semester starts. Lots of PUJs pass the campus. As of the moment, entry to the campus requires vaccination cards. University shuttle services are currently not in function.

Cons:

-Expensive tuition, but bad service

-Mostly theory rather than practice

-Equipment are being gatekept, usually for display... Or at least it feels that way (unless you specifically ask to use the equipment outside of subject period-- which requires you to play tag with the specific staff/teacher you need to reach)

-Expect to go to YouTube academy, cuz mostly it's about self learning

-Some subjects don't quite align with the course and aren't our forte but they expect high quality

-Portfolio making is 4th year but internship is during the summer after 3rd year..? Why?

-Also, why do we need to pay for library expenses during internship...?

-You'll be a jack of all trades, but a master of none

-Bad communication with teachers. I know they're busy but it's as if they feel entitled to your time. Imagine driving all the way to school which takes an hour but finding out there's no class because they announced so last minute... prepare to be ghosted 90% of the time

Pros:

You'll make good friends and connections, and you'll bond over having very similar opinions about this course, so a...
