Mayon Volcano is one of those sights that you just can’t help but be blown away by, even when it’s being elusive. When it DOES decide to reveal itself, it’s like the whole world pauses for a moment. The symmetry of it is unreal—perfectly conical, like something straight out of a postcard or a painting. You almost don’t believe it’s real, especially when the sun hits it just right and the colors shift throughout the day. It’s honestly breathtaking!
And when I say breathtaking, trust me, I've seen my fair share of beautiful scenery around the world, and Mayon Volcano still makes me feel like a child full of awe whenever I get to see it!
But here’s the kicker—Mayon’s like that one friend who’s always fashionably late. lol. It has a way of hiding behind clouds or being covered in mist, making you wait for that moment when it finally decides to show its full glory. Sometimes, you can spend a whole day staring at the skies, hoping for a glimpse, only for it to stay shy.
Still, even when it's elusive, it doesn’t take away from how incredible it is when you do get to see it. There’s just something about the majesty and mystery of it that makes it all the more special when it makes an appearance.
You’re never quite sure when it’ll happen, but when it does, it’s...

Its frequent eruption may have been one of the factors why "Daragang Magayon" (or beautiful lady in Bicol, a legendary being attributed to Mayon) maintained its almost symmetrical cone.
While it dominates Bicol landscape, it is best viewed in Albay, where it is at.
On most of its time, it is shrouded by clouds. However, in early mornings and good days, you can see her in full glory--to which a famed "pamahiin" or superstition says, "when she shows to you in her full glory, especially if it is your first time setting foot in Albay, you have a pure heart." In some street superstitions, "birhen ka pa daw."
While the volcano can be climbed, it is prudent not to scale it, as it remains active and had its times that it erupted without warning, which claimed several lives just a few years ago. You can go to the gullies and the lava walls on its foot though, through ATV or by foot with a local guide.
It is best to consult with PHIVOLCS and...
Read moreI love visiting this area. It's simply breathtaking. The view of Mt Mayon from anywhere in Albay is spectacular, especially when the sun shines and illuminates its majestic peak. It's hard not to feel moved by its beauty and power.
This area's history is also fascinating, filled with stories of eruptions and seismic activity that have shaped the landscape and left their mark on local culture. It's a reminder that we humans should never take our environment for granted.
It's no wonder the people of Albay are so passionate about Mt Mayon. Despite its potential danger, they honor it with reverence and admiration. There is something special about standing at the foot of this giant and feeling humbled by its magnitude.
I feel blessed to have been able to experience it first-hand. Mt Mayon is genuinely a fantastic sight that I will...
