St. Jerome Parish Church, commonly known as Morong Church, is another gem I had the pleasure of visiting. Among all the churches I’ve been to, this one stands out for its striking baroque façade, which is both grand and artistically detailed. It’s not just a church—it’s a historical monument that commands attention even from afar.
Built by the Franciscans in the early 1600s and completed in 1850, Morong Church is rich in history and character. The façade was constructed using locally sourced adobe and features intricate carvings that blend Eastern and Western influences—a testament to the evolving artistry during the Spanish colonial era. One fun fact: the bell tower was actually added later and is a favorite subject for photography, especially during golden hour.
When we visited, it was a little bit crowded, which only goes to show how active and devoted the local Catholic community is. It seems this place is truly loved by many, both by locals and tourists alike. Parking can be a bit tricky if you’re driving a car, but manageable if you’re on a motorcycle. Despite that, it was worth the stop. The surrounding town is full of kind, welcoming people, adding warmth to the overall experience.
Inside the church, you’ll find a beautifully maintained altar and peaceful ambiance, making it a great place to pause, reflect, and admire both faith and history in one sacred space. Morong Church is not just a destination—it’s a living piece of Philippine heritage that...
Read moreSt. Jerome Parish Church (also known as Morong Church) is a Roman Catholic church located in Morong, Rizal, Philippines. It was built during the Spanish period in the country, with stones from a hill called Kay Ngaya; lime from the stones of the mountain Kay Maputi; and sand and gravel from Morong River. The town of Morong traces its origins to the pioneering work of the Franciscans Juan de Plasencia and Diego de Oropesa. Both were responsible for starting most of the lake town mission in 1578. They constructed chapels (visitas) attached to a bigger settlement to allow religious and civil administration. Later, this settlement was converted into Pueblo de Morong and was made the provincial capital of the Franciscan Order at that time. Baras, Tanay, Pililla, Cardona, Binangonan and Teresa were the visitas under...
