I have been here as a kid. And everytime I come back this place is always the same place as I remember growing up. Very laid back. On a schoolday you can see a lot of kids and highschool students strolling around, playing, doing school rehearsals, etc. Park have always been very safe and alive. As I visit today (Sept 2022) there have been no midnight stalls selling balut but I think they have all been moved along Sunset Boulevard. Very historical place. Administrative buildings have been around like that since I was a kid here. Not so much also changed with the church and the map that Jose Rizal made. Maybe the only difference now versus then is the fact that there have been many vehicles passing around lately. This is a nice, good place to relax and watch local activity. Grass are well maintained, so clean that you can actually sit and lay your back on the grass safely. You rarely can see animal poop around. What I noticed though was that the old cannons were gone, or maybe they moved it somewhere I don't know. All in all this place is a must go, and personally I'll be here as frequent everytime I visit this small, sleepy city.

Dapitan City Plaza (“Liwasan ng Dapitan”) also known as the Town Square is the plaza which Dr. Jose P. Rizal beautified and developed during his exile. With the assistance of Spanish Politico-Military Governor of Dapitan, Gov. Ricardo Carnicero, Rizal made the Dapitan City Plaza comparable to the ones he saw in Europe. Dapitan City Plaza has an estimated land area of 1 hectare and it is laid out in the tradition rectilinear Spanish colonial manner. The plaza already existed when Dr. Jose P. Rizal arrived in Dapitan on July 17, 1892. Oil lamps were hung on tress and cut tree trunks were placed around the plaza as part of Carnicero’s project. Rizal planted white santans, red gumamelas and acacia trees.

It's a real pleasure to see a so nice main square. There is a breath of joy being there walking. The tribute paid to the national hero José Rizal is omnipresent and well realized. Go there either early morning or at sunset you will appreciate more. The old church is also remarkable architecture outside. Inside notice the wonderful ceiling. Thank you to those who made this so beautiful
