As a regular visitor to Hel, this museum is effectively in the centre of town in an old (and lovely) former Protestant church. While fishing might not be a topic most visitors to Hel are thinking about it’s a great place to visit for many reasons. The displays are interesting showing an extensive history of Hel (since Hel’s history is tied to the fishing industry) but the building itself, being an old church, has a lovely peaceful feel.

There’s displays on 3 floors - the 1st floor has a glass floored extension over the old ground floor nave of the church. This glass floor gets me every time - my brain says “totally safe”, my animal instincts go “don’t walk here!”. Every time I force myself to walk onto it.

The highlight in terms of pure tourism though is that you can get up to the old steeple of the church for the best views in Hel. It also has space to move around up there.

Also note, while not totally accessible, there is a new lift from the ground floor to the two other exhibition floors AND to one small (but steep) flight of stairs below the steeple view. So while you may not be able to walk all the way up all the stairs, you could still see the view if you can handle maybe 10 stairs after going up the lift.

Outside the old church, are more exhibits and some park benches to sit on - a nice quiet getaway and rest from the hustle and bustle...

I recently visited Muzeum Rybołówstwa Oddział Narodowego Muzeum Morskiego in Gdańsk and it was an incredible experience! The museum is dedicated to fishing and maritime history and culture and it was fascinating to learn about the history, traditions and tools of Polish fishermen over the years. The museum has a great collection of artifacts, including fishing boats, tools, and photographs, and the exhibits are very well presented. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable and the audio tour was very informative. I highly recommend a visit to Muzeum Rybołówstwa Oddział Narodowego Muzeum Morskiego for anyone interested in learning more about Poland's maritime history...

Super miejsce.

A really nice, smallish museum. The texts are in Polish only, but there are very good leaflets in english, german and possibly other languages too. Very informative museum. The museum is also interesting as a building: it is a former evangelical church from the 16th century. You can also visit the tower to see good views to the city and the sea. Definitely worth a visit!

Very decent, informative museum about fishing industry in the region. English description available. We went in there to escape the heat. Tower with good views. Lift will take you some of the way up. The downside is the lack of toilets. Also, interactive displays for kids not working (shame). Benches to relax outside with lots of old boats and other fishing equipment.
