Praia da Bordeira is one of the most breathtaking beaches I’ve ever visited and I’ve seen a lot across the Europe. Located on the wild and unspoiled west coast of the Algarve, near the villages: Carrapateira and Bordeira, this beach feels like a hidden gem far away from the usual tourist crowds.
The first thing that strikes you is the sheer size of the beach - it’s absolutely massive, especially during low tide when the sand stretches endlessly. There are beautiful sand dunes all around, and a wooden walkway that makes it easy to explore the area without disturbing the natural landscape. The views from the cliffs above are stunning, especially at sunset.
The beach itself is clean, peaceful, and surrounded by dramatic cliffs and untouched nature. The waves can be quite strong, making it a popular spot for surfers, but also perfect if you just want to relax, walk along the shore, or take photos. Even on a warm day, there’s always plenty of space, and it never feels crowded.
There aren’t many facilities directly on the beach, so it’s a good idea to bring water, snacks, and anything else you might need for the day. But that’s part of its charm - it feels raw, authentic, and disconnected from commercial tourism. Best way to get here is by car - there are at least three car parks nearby with lots of car park spaces.
If you’re exploring the west coast of the Algarve, Praia da Bordeira is a must-see. It’s perfect for nature lovers, photographers, and anyone looking for a quiet,...
Read moreI have just had to leave this beach because the shaded areas are being charged for (10 euros). There is no signage at all to suggest that this is a charged location anywhere near the shade except for in the far off distance. The company engaged in this mafia style racket (hidden fees and charges) is clearly extorting money from unsuspecting tourists. As I understand it this is a publicly maintained beach so I do question the authority of people to charge. I asked for evidence of authority and the woman asking for money failed to provide it and only pointed in the distance at the signage and the shack to say that they are charging money. You are better off visiting Amoreira and Arrifana where such practices do not seem to be rife.
Otherwise, bring your own shade and towel as seems to be practice in this part...
Read moreA unique beach. Visited in March and was perfect weather and beautiful.
Praia da Bordeira is a beach on the west coast of the Algarve, located in the Costa Vicentina natural park, near the villages of Carrapateira and Bordeira.
We parked in the first car park and walked through the small river through the sand dunes to the beach. I have never seen so much sand!
The beach itself was endless sand with large waves. There were only a handful of people of the beach and most of them were surfers.
We went back to the car and drive up along the hillside to the small parking lots which allows to walk along the top of the small cliff that over looks the beach. Beautiful views.
Absolutely stunning beach and views. I would consider this...
