Indeed the castle is ruins burried in the soil. In March 1232, in the reign of Sancho II of Portugal, he appears as commander of Alcácer do Sal; in other words, chief commander of Portugal, succeeding Mendo Álvares. He conquered Aljustrel from the Moors in 1234. It was also under his direction, but without direct intervention, that the Santiaguistas and the allowance of his cousin Gonçalo Eanes do Vinhal conquered Mértola around 1238. In 1241, when he returned to the Castilian branch of the Order of Santiago had already conquered a large part of Sotavento and even Paderne and Silves. According to the Chronicle of the Conquest of the Algarve, Tavira was conquered from the Moors, on 11 June, by D. Paio Peres Correia, in the course of his attempt to help the Martyrs of Tavira. In 1235, already as Commander-in-Chief of the Order of Santiago in Portugal, he received, on behalf of the Order, Aljustrel by donation from King Sancho II. The geodesical sign was one of the castle towers. Recovering the remaining is going in...

The view from the top is absolutely stunning and definitely worth the climb. The steps are not too steep, so it’s quite manageable. When we visited, it was 37°C, which made the walk a bit too exhausting.

Unfortunately, the chapel itself was locked, and the public toilets were also closed. That was a bit disappointing, as we would have liked to go inside and take a break. There are no refreshments or facilities nearby either.

Still, the view alone makes it worth the visit, and the area is calm and peaceful. I’d recommend stopping by if you’re...

🏰🎉 I had the pleasure of attending a wedding at Aljustrel Castle, and it was a small, cozy, and absolutely charming venue with a view that took my breath away! 😍🌄 The intimate atmosphere of the castle added a special touch to the celebration, making it an unforgettable experience. 🥂💫 But what stole the show was the panoramic view of the rolling hills from the castle's vantage point - simply breathtaking! 🌟🌿 If you're looking for a unique and picturesque setting for your special day, Aljustrel Castle is the perfect...

Luogo semplice e panoramico. Buona idea passare di li
