Canal Caveira Winery — Attraction in Grândola

Great wines and excellent service!! We stopped for a wine tasting on the way driving from Lisbon to Lagos. Although we didn’t have a reservation, the staff was super accommodating and quickly setup a tasting for the three of us. We chose to do a tasting of their white, red, and rose wines, which was very reasonably priced and also included a snacking plate of bread, cheese, sausage, and their tomato jam (delicious). The tasting room also has fantastic views of the winery and surrounding landscape. Joana gave a wonderful presentation of the wines that was both educational and engaging. We arrived without a reservation, intending on tasting wine with charcuterie. They were unable to accommodate the charcuterie plate but were gracious enough to allow us to taste their wines accompanied with some chorizo and sweet breads. We were extremely fortunate to be hosted by Maria, one of their young winemakers. She was exceptionally knowledgeable, unfailingly polite, and very patient while answering our questions. Our 2nd visit to Portugal. This time with an open agenda. Having been directed here by our villa owner we met host Ana. The price €5 per head with meat cheese and wine. Ana was a great host and the wine divine. We met a taster, Maria, who also gave us a great insight into her role. Having been to France and Italian tasting venues in recent years, this put them to shame. Great wine, great chat and some bottles taken home for our bbq. Thanks and good luck with your new wines.
