An absolutely fantastic area. In the top 3 places of my 2 weeks in the Azores. An entire extension to the island formed in 1957. The views, colours and landscapes are breathtaking. Parking available and there are refreshments and toilets in the Interpretation Centre. There is a charge to climb the lighthouse itself (this is included in the ticket for the tour of the Interpretation Centre), though walking around the area is free. Walking on the newly formed island is allowed for guided parties only so booking is needed - I didn't book as I didn't know and regretted it, I would have loved to do that. In addition, there are also many trails around to hike around the area and get...

Finally, the seashore downhill is worth a stop to admire the ocean and hear the waves. I took...
