Este castelo remonta ao século XIV, possivelmente no reinado de D. Dinis. A Rainha Santa Isabel terá mandado construir os Paços de Monte Real. Tem planta retangular formada pela articulação de três corpos, um espaço murado por quatro paredões rematados em merlões, apresentando dois arcos ogivais e aberto por duas portas de verga recta, uma das quais, com cornija saliente, acede à capela.
