If the weather is good, this is another place on the island worth visiting. Fabulous views of the northern coast, a picturesque lighthouse and a very healthy walk to it. You can enter the lighthouse for free several times a day and you will have the opportunity to see everything from the inside. Is it really worth it and what isn't worth it? You can drive right up to the lighthouse building (because it is possible), but a little above you will find a car park, from where you can take a steep but pleasant walk with beautiful views to the lighthouse. Farol do Arnel is a significant piece of history as it was the first lighthouse built not only on São Miguel but in all of the Azores. The octagonal shape and interesting design make it a unique place to visit. However, Farol do Arnel's real asset is its stunning location. It is possible to drive down and up the road, however, it isn't recommended for less experienced drivers. When we visited (Saturday) the lighthouse was closed but we enjoyed the views of the surrounding cliffs and the ocean, as well as the lighthouse itself, taking advantage of the many photo...
