Visiting the Museu Nacional do Desporto in December 2018 was an incredible experience. The museum offered a fascinating journey through the history of sports, celebrating achievements, athletes, and the evolution of various disciplines. The exhibits were well-organized and informative, featuring memorabilia, photographs, and interactive displays that highlighted Portugal’s rich sporting heritage. It was particularly impressive to see tributes to legendary athletes and key moments in Portuguese and international sports history. The museum’s free entry made the visit even more enjoyable, allowing easy access to an educational and inspiring space without any cost. It’s a perfect destination for sports enthusiasts, families, and anyone interested in learning more about the role of sports in culture and society. Overall, it was a memorable and enriching experience. I highly recommend visiting the Museu Nacional do Desporto for its engaging exhibits, historical value, and accessibility.

The museum could be more interesting by adding more information on exhibited items, a reorganization of the material and addition of interactive parts. The staff were friendly and helpful, though there was no ticket handed to me, even though it was free most museum print ticket but here was not the case. I was the only one visiting the museum at the time which was strange as the tourists were flocking out of the building. I believe the museum should take benefit of its outstanding spot in the middle of most touristic areas to attract more visitors. One more thing to mention is that there is no actual shop for the museum. In fact there is a museum shop outside the building but not actually dedicated for sport museum, and selling souvenirs from Lisbon and porcelain objects among others.

Not easily found museum in the tourist area of Restauradores but quite good to see if you have extra time. The person incharge was friendly and helpful. Some history of the games where Portugal won. The building itself is nice to see as it is full of character. I hope they improve this museum as it has great potential! The main entrance only shows a written word that the museum is inside and you need to pass another building to enter.
