Museum that offers a glimpse into the traditional art of olive oil making, housed in a modern building whose distinctive architecture, unfortunately, can only be truly appreciated from above. It features some interesting installations; however, since the process of making olive oil hasn't changed much over the years, the content is somewhat repetitive. Priced at 7€ per adult, the entry fee might feel a bit steep, especially for larger families with Portuguese pockets. The experience could have been more satisfying if it included a tasting of locally produced olive oil at some point during the visit.
For those planning to visit, I recommend timing it during the olive oil making season. During this period, visitors have the opportunity to see the adjacent working mill in operation, offering a real view of contemporary olive oil production that complements the...
Read moreBeautifull building, lots of good information on ancient pressing of olive oil, very nice interactive features, beautifull movies and photos. I missed the part of modern pressing, the owner has a press next to the building but that was not representing how a modern press should be, clean and tidy. The little shop offers olive oils, unfortunately the olive oil on display I tasted was rancid and therefor not extra virgin. The shop is a little over merchandised with the Museum sticker on everything. If I was them I would not only represent their own brand but sell the good olive oils from all over Portugal to really get an experience of Portuguese olive oil. Like wine the terroir and varieties really make a difference and its fun to experience that at a museum.l like this. Over all definately worth visiting and I...
Read moreWe took a chance based on google reviews and are so pleased that we visited. The museum offered an informative journey through time of olive oil making. We really appreciated the attention to detail when it came to the historical preservation of some of the 19th and 20th century presses. We also took lunch in the restaurant associated with the property and couldn’t be happier with our choices of wild boar and goat. We recommend anyone visiting the region take a few hours to enjoy the museum’s quirky combo of architecture and curated works.
Note: if you visit during olive harvesting season, you can also get a tour of the olive oil factory...
