Praia do Fogo — Attraction in Povoação

This beach is known for having warm water from geothermal activity, but don't expect a large area of tepid water. Most of the water is average temperature at best — perhaps a tiny bit warmer, but not remarkably so. There's a small area where very hot water comes from underground sifting through the sand (be careful not to burn your feet!) and it mixes with the regular temperature seawater as the waves come and go, and there you may be able to experience warm water for brief moments before the next wave brings more regular-temperature seawater.

Beautiful black sand beach about an hour away from the center of Ponta Delgado. There are some permanent (in sand) tiki hut style umbrellas set up along the beach so you can get some shade from the sun. The beach does not have a long stretch of sand. It may be about 200 feet. There is a restaurant across the roadway from the beach along with the necessary facilities for changing after your dip in the ocean.
