Muito bonito e bem conservado.

"Esta magnífica fortaleza, foi mandada construir por D. Dinis, no ano de 1313. Foi mais tarde reedificado por D. João II, mantendo ainda características do projeto inicial. Construído em alvenaria de pedra, possui uma planta pentagonal com cinco torres cilíndricas. É de estilo gótico mas com alguns ornamentos em estilo manuelino. É o caso da porta lateral, um dos símbolos do Castelo. Ainda conserva os volumes originais do século XVIII e os motivos mudéjares e manuelinos. Foi considerado Monumento Nacional de Portugal em 1910. No interior do Castelo, pode visitar a Igreja Matriz e a Igreja da Misericórdia. A Igreja Matriz de Viana é uma construção manuelina com influências mudéjares. Tem planta retangular regular e apresenta uma ampla nave. Na fachada principal vê-se um bonito portal manuelino e um arco em volta perfeita. As pinturas murais do século XVIII embelezam o interior, estruturado em três naves de cinco tramos. A norte da muralha do Castelo, encontramos a Igreja da Misericórdia de Viana (século XVII), uma construção religiosa da Confraria da Misericórdia da vila. We were able to park right outside the castle and waited until it reopened at 2PM from the lunch break. The custodian was enthusiastic and knowledgeable and spoke excellent English. There is a small museum onsite showing the restoration of the buildings. The castle itself is really just an outer wall with some towers that you can't go in to.
