The temple enshrines the Goddess Chinnamasta (the beheaded Goddess Kali), one of the ten forms of the Goddess Durga. The statue shows the goddess holding her own head in her left hand and her head drinking the blood oozing out of her neck. The headless idol of Goddess Chhinnamastika stands on the body of Kamdeo and Rati in Lotus bed. Many smaller temples have been built around the main temple such as the temples of Ashtamatrika and Dakshina Kali. The temples of Mahavidyas built in a series nearby are Tara, Shodashi, Bhubneswari, Bhairavi, Bagla, Kamla, Matangi, Dhumavati. The temple is very old and the place Rajrappa finds mention in the Vedas, Puranas and Hindu scriptures as a "Shakti Peeth" which is flocked by devotees from Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal Assam and Nepal for worship of Goddess Chinnamastika. Vedic book Durga Saptashati also mentions the temple. The art and architectural design resembles the design of temples of Tantrik importance. The temple is considered as notable as the tantrik site of Kamakhya Temple of Assam which has a similar architecture. The temple is one of the 10 Mahavidhyas. The ancient temple of Goddess was destroyed and later a new temple was constructed and the original idol of Goddess was placed in it. Animal sacrifice is still practised in the temple. The sacrificial animals are killed on Tuesdays, Saturdays and during Kali puja. A large number of pilgrims arrive here throughout the year. Large congregation of people takes place here during the full Moon and New Moon nights. Owing to the religious importance of the place, it is also popular among the disciples for marriage and ritual of Mundan or shaving the head. Vehicle owners come here to get blessings for their new vehicles as they believe that the first worship of vehicles here multiplies the life of vehicles and brings luck to the owners. Tantriks look upon this place for Tantric accomplishment. Rajrappa also is a pilgrim centre for the Santals and other tribals who come for immersion of the ashes of their loved ones in the Damodar. They come mostly during the month of December, in groups known as yatri. As per their mythology it is their final resting place. In their folk songs Rajrappa is referred to as "Thel Kopi Ghat" (Water Ghat) and they use oil after bathing. They come in significant numbers from the southern parts of Jharkhand state such as East and West Singhbhum and Saraikela districts. Maa Chinmastika devi is also known as Manokamna devi due to the belief that it fulfills the wishes of the devotees. Devotees tie a red thread around a rock in the temple for the fulfillment of their wishes. In the month of January a special fair is held here on the festival of Makar Sankranti and attended by lakhs of people. A fair is also organized during the festival of Vijaydashmi, Vijayadashami and attended by large number of people. Visitors can take a holy bath in the river. Besides religious importance, the place is also a picnic spot owing to its natural environment.[citation needed] The hilly landscape covered with lush forest and rivers are some of its features.[original research?] The hot water spring located here increases the popularity of the region.[citation needed] The Bhera River joins the Damodar River from a height of 20 feet creating a waterfall. The location has boating facilities and visitors can take boat rides in the locality having various rock formations along the river bank. The place also attracts many foreign tourists due to its natural and religious importance. The region around the temple is quiet and eerie after sunset. Due to this Satyajit Ray chose Rajrappa as the setting for Feluda adventure Chhinnamastar Abhishap [Wikipedia 2018]

Beautiful and very much Good temple... in the state of Jharkhand, India which is at a place called Rajrappa. This temple hosts the idol of Maa Chinnamastika. There is an interesting story of Maa. This temple is situated on a hillock at the confluence of the Damodar and Bhera (Bhairavi) Rivers near the Rajrappa falls. The temple enshrines the Goddess Chinnamastika (the beheaded Goddess Kali), one of the ten forms of the Goddess Durga. This temple known as Chinnamastika temple finds place in our vedas and puranas and it has been recognized as an ancient and strong source of Shakti. Bhagwati Bhawani and her two friends were taking bath in Mandakini river. They felt very hungry while bathing and their color changed to black. They reuested Bhagwati devi to give them something to eat. She asked them to wait for some time, but, due to hunger, they insisted. Then they pleaded very softly saying “Mother gives food immediately to her children.” Out of pity, Goddess had cut her head. The head came in left hand and 3 blood streams stated flowing. Two of them went towards the girls. Their hunger was finished drinking theh blood flow and the third stream was drunk by Goddess itself. This is the story of Maa Chinnamastika.

Rajrappa Temple Symbolizes a great history this is one among the SaktiPeeths in india , MAA Kali , goddess of time, doomsday, and death, or the black goddess (the feminine form of Sanskrit kala, “time-doomsday-death” or “black”). She is worshipped here. Everyday lakhs nd lakhs of devotees come here to take blessings of MAA Kali , they used to offer living goats as their offering so , that maa gets happy and give them blessings , this is supposed to be the real scenario behind offering, then after taking the life of goat this meat is served as prasad among the devotees. The government is now aware of the tourism sector so have made the guest house for the pilgrims to stay , you can find private spaces too with cheaper options Although the place is crowded but thanks to the latest waiting hall made by government for the devotees ,its been a great relief to them. Along with Maa Kali's Temple there are several temples built nearby so people visit those temples after they visit the main temple. The temple has been maintained properly you will find cleanliness in the temple premises Note: Don't litter inside the Temple premises its a humble request to all of the devotees and tourists.

Rajrappa is a Hindu pilgrimage centre attracting an estimated 2,500-3,000 persons daily. The main attraction of the Chhinnamasta (also known as Chinnamastika) temple located here is the headless deity of goddess Chinnamasta which stands on the body of Kamdev and Rati in the lotus bed. The Chhinnamasta temple is very popular for its Tantrik style of architectural design. The temple is very old but has that essence of enchantment.Apart from the main temple, there are ten temples of various gods and goddesses such as the Sun God and Lord Shiva. Animal sacrifice is still practised in the temple. The sacrifice is offered on Tuesdays and Saturdays and during Kali puja. Also named as the Chhinamastika temple. Very famous among people from Jharkhand , Bihar, Bangal Good things about the temple: Located in a very serence environment. Green all around with scenic beauty all around. Clean river . Nice shops. Temple is big with huge capacity . Very easy access to the temple. Two ways to do worship. First go through the main gate and see every nook and corner of the temple then finally to the main temple , then worship and other acts will follow but it will take time. 2nd Photographers( They try to lure customers)will escort to the back gate from where u can directly reach the main temple. But you will skip all other parts of the temple but it will take some time. Place and shops are inexpensive. Bad things : Few hotels around so lodging and fooding is an issue. In my case I ordered Aloo Paratha but I could not find curd in the whole market. Food is a issue but not for those who can eat in small dhabas with stale food.
