A unique beach along this section of coastline full of small black rock. Not only is the beach cool to see, but there are some great rock formations in the distance and right on this section of beach. The tide can be dangerous with “sneaker waves” so pay attention to the warning signs. People have been swept out into the water here. Depending on the tide, you can go around the rock formation on the left and enter a large cave like structure. There you can explore more of the rock formations and get some great shots of the beach. This place can get very crowded, so early mornings and evenings might be best. We were there in Nov, in the evening, and there were still quite a few people. Great place to visit though, as the scenery is beautiful.

Reynisfjara is one of the world's most stunningly beautiful black sand beaches, famous for its dramatic basalt columns and the iconic Reynisdrangar sea stacks. The view of powerful waves crashing onto the volcanic sand is unforgettable. However, this is also one of Iceland's most dangerous spots due to unpredictable "sneaker waves." Read and follow all warning signs. Never turn your back on the ocean and always keep a safe distance from the water's edge. If you are driving, parking is available in front of the Black Beach Restaurant. This is the designated lot and provides immediate access to the beach and all the safety information. Enjoy the incredible scenery, but prioritize safety above all else.

This is the side where you can see the massive basalt columns (not Vik beach) - very impressive. And very busy (and we were here around 8pm). Paid parking (Approx. $10 CAD), with a short walk to the black sand beach - basalt columns and cave on your left. Watch the wave warning as there’s a few “sneaker waves” that come up much higher than the average wave. There is a small restaurant here but if you’re continuing east on the ring road, the next town, Vik, (about 10 mins) has much better food options (ie: The Soup Company).
