Big blana. Def worth a ski visit. I recommend stopping in Lupeni and taking the cabin up to Straja. Be prepared to spend 25 lei a day on the parking there (ticket says 15, but oh well, corrupted Romania). 30 on the cabin ride. Once you get to Straja you will find it is not very expensive (a full day ski pass is cheaper than in other romanian resorts), and the conditions are awesome because you have a lot of slopes to choose from. Tip: Bring cash, cuz “Cash is king” as one might say. I couldn’t manage to find an ATM there but it wasn’t a big problem as most places you can pay with your debit card. Only things you could possibly need cash for are riding the cabin back down to Lupeni (closes at 16:30), or to get a lift from one of the drivers that go in/out of Straja if you miss the cabin like I did (this might cost from 10-60 lei depending on your luck). Bottom line I would recommend bringing at least 150-200 lei in cash for parking/transport so you don’t have any surprises.

This review is about their overall infrastructure, parking, prices and their employees. The slopes are amazing and you can enjoy skiing or snowboarding on about 4 very decent ski slopes. However, the maintenance of the ski slopes is very poor and deplorable. Even the longest ski slopes are mostly unusable ... and the chairlifts surely needs an upgrade Mostly everything at Straja is overpriced, starting with the food, ski passes and parking. Some of their employees are harsh, unfamiliar with customer service experience and customers needs and all-around experience. I had the feeling that they care only about making money and ignoring the safety and security of their customers. Sometimes not even trying to be polite :( The parking is horrible and risky because you don’t have a decent & clean parking spot and they charge you 35lei/day. Parking your car is very dangerous on the side of the road especially if you don’t have 4x4. The parking lot is often dotted with huge potholes and ditches. Most ski passes don’t cover the entire resorts which is horrible and you have no good stair access to the main chair lift coming from the ticketing office and in some other parts of the resort.

One of the nicer resorts in Romania with several good ski runs. Pros: - about 4 very decent ski pistes (intermidiate difficulty) - about 5 chairlifts (only 2 newer installations, the others kind of beaten up) - nice gondola service down to the city and a large parking lot - good options for acomodation close to the ski lifts - a good off-piste option through a natural half-pipe Cons: - longest ski piste is mostly unusable on its last leg (could use some snow guns) and is disconnected by a road from the rest - parking lot is often dotted with huge pot holes and ditches - no good stair access to the main chair lift coming from the ticketing office - (most) ski passes don't cover the entire resort - poor lunch options - some installations could use an upgrade

Pro: nice view, various ski passes with many ski lifts, many places to stay or rent ski equipment, various slopes, dedicated and paid car parking, ski instructors/schools Cons: crouded and cramped, sometimes the prices are unnecesary high but the services and quality aren't that good, very steep streets, the locals "race" their vehicles up and down the resort TIP: the local police often redirect the tourists to use the cable car or the bus/vans to reach the resort because the local oligarchs own them and motivate this due to the cause that the resort's parking is full, but every time I've argued with them and went on to the resort's paid parking I've always found a spot (there were 30+ free parking spots). I'm convinced that they are paid off

The ski slopes are nice...wide...long. there are a bit crowdy. The views are wonderfull. Only 3 stars maybe 2....:( because of the infrastructure. All the buildings are crowded and no space between them. And the resort is new...20 years :((. If it is a lot of snow on the streets you cant see the dirt under it....the city hall has to do something about it if they want to develope the resort in something nice..... Over all if you dont look at the bad stuff(infrastructure, streets, mud on the side streets) and you look at the people who are nice and friendly or the ski slopes or the nice views....then you can have a good time. Sorry for some not so nice pictures but this is it when the white snow is gonne. The city hall has to deal with it.
