I had actually headed to Bucegi National Park to see the Sphinx but I got there later in the day and ran into a family that suggested the cave. That was a great suggestion! It is massive and beautiful! Getting there was somewhat of an interesting endeavor. You can park at the end of the road that leads there (before the small bridge). Then you start walking on the gravel road but it ends abruptly and you might not be quite sure where to go. You have to be on the left side of the stream. There and fallen trees and one section had a couple of boards to cross. You will make it back to a road again and it will lead directly up to the cave. Entrance is only 10 Lei (about $2.50). I know it seems silly at first but the helmet is a great idea because I bumped my head more than once in low areas. They provide you bonnets (to be sanitary) and hard hats at the mouth of the cave. Once you enter there are paths and stairways that lead to the upper and lower parts of the cave. I probably explored for about an hour. There is a small waterfall in the lower part where the water is believed to have healing properties. All in all really beautiful. You can end your experience taking a peak at chapel at the entrance which is part of the...
Read moreNice activity, but mostly suited for children. First of all, logistics. You can drive to the caves on road 714 and then continue north following the cave signs. You will have to park you car on a makeshift "parking lot", essentially dirt, and walk about 1 km, most of it uphill, through a lovely park. Alternatively, you can continue on the 714 until you reach Mănăstirea Peștera Ialomiței. Park your car on the side of the road and walk a straight line directly into the caves.
The caves' entrance fee is 10 lei, this includes a helmet that you are very encouraged to wear. There are bathrooms in the entrance (1 lei to use). The cave system is illuminated and wet. There are many stairs to climb inside, and adults will constantly have to duck and or bend their knees to proceed. If you have bad knees or back, THIS ONE ISN'T FOR YOU.
Children, I suspect, will enjoy exploring the cavern system and watching their parents bang their heads against the hard...

In this cave the Wallachian ruler Mihnea the Evil (Mihnea cel Rău) hid. Very beautiful monastery nearby the cave.
Find a helmet at the beginning and wear it, otherwise you will get some head bumps. In rainy weather wear a proper coat. Vocal guide is available only in Romanian language.
Amazing experience walking in ancient caves. Very safe and modern. There are many tips on the route, there are signs, signs with directions to the exit. We were an hour before the closing of the cave and there were very few people. I guess this cave definitely worth a visit.
