The 5 star version of the Pestera hotel has just opened at the beginning of 2025. The design of the hotel is amazing and all rooms have an amazing view over the mountains. The saunas and pools are also beautifully executed. The price of the rooms includes breakfast with a great variety to choose from. Also, entry to the pools and saunas are granted and everything in the minibar is included. I would say the stay at hotel Pestera can end up being a bit pricey. The rooms are pretty expensive and the price not justified when looking at the finishes in the room. BUT the rooms are big, the view always beautiful and when you use all that comes along with the room you got yourself a decent deal. Also, the room service comes 2 times a day and freshes everything up and refills the fridge. One of the real problems is that the new restaurant in the 5 stars hotel is very expensive and the portions not always big or the food tasty. More than once, the soups were too cold and I could tell the chef was not a romanian cook. For many of the foods, there isn’t always a side dish so you have to buy that separately. The drinks are also very expensive and you end up paying as much as 6€ for just a bottle of water of 750 ml. All in all, if you want a complete lunch and a drink, you will probably pay around 30-40€ per person. This is a lot for most romanian guests. I think a bit more attention to details would make this place exquisite. For example, there was a little guest gift at the end, but only one per room. This works out well for couples and families but not for individual guests who share a room. To sum it up: very nice location for a nice 5 star hotel where one could maximize the profit and the good feeling for the clients by offering a bit more fairness and grace to their clients.

This isn’t just a hotel in the mountains — it’s The Hotel. A perfect mix of high-tech design, luxury, and nature that offers a truly unique experience. I’ve stayed at the old 4-star version of this hotel multiple times, and the new 5-star upgrade is on a completely different level. The scale and complexity of what’s been built at this altitude is impressive and worth admiring. Rooms are spacious and offer breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. The food is exactly what you'd expect from a 5-star property, with a great mix of local specialties and international options. The staff is friendly, helpful, and professional. The spa and pool area are highlights — modern, relaxing, and beautifully designed. It really feels like a luxury retreat. Highly recommended for organized groups, and especially during weekdays when it's quieter — you might even have the spa and pool almost to yourself.

On our honeymoon, we went for a hike and to visit the nearby monastery in a cave in the Bucegi Mountains. This hotel had the nearest restaurant, so we went there for lunch (we stayed in another city a few hours away). Rodney was our waiter and was incredibly kind. He made us feel welcome after a long day filled with walking. The service was efficient and the food some of the best we have had in Romania. The lamb pastrami is a tasty local specialty, and the orange sauce duck was the perfect blend of crispy on the outside yet tender enough to slice with a butterknife. That’s very difficult to achieve with duck breast! In the end, it all cost $300 RON, or about $70 total for two people. Highly recommend dining here, and the hotel facilities looked great too.

A very unpleasant experience when booking a room at this hotel. I have made a reservation for 2 nights for an apartment(for the weekend) on the phone and I was requested to pay the up-front one night (115 Euro). I have paid it on Tuesday and on Wednesday morning I found-out that I was a direct contact of a confirmed COVID case (my nephew). I have provided the info to the hotel (including the official RT-PCR test of my nephew) and the response from the hotel staff (in writing) was that I cannot even postpone my reservation unless I get sick !!! They ignored the fact that I was on quarantine and unable to use my reservation. The staff was very inflexible and actually did not responded to my follow-up email. So I ended up losing the advance payment... It was so frustrating to see this mentality again and again in the Romanian tourism. They managed to get 115 Euro out of me this time but lost me as a customer forever.. Seeing the response by the owner, I am even more shocked by the lack of business sense. It is not about the rules or insurance, it is about common business sense. It would have been very easy for them to check that I was a returning customer that has spent probably over 1000 Euro in the past at the hotel, and obviously willing to do this in the future. You were happy to get 115 euro now but lose the opportunity to bring thousands more. I have never asked for a refund but just to have the possibility to use the advance on a future reservation. You probably do not care for customers like me because you count for others to come in. This mentality is what frustrates me the most and it is this that differs enormously from Austria...

I was expecting a 4 stars experience with regard to breakfast and dinner also. Perhaps the best way to improve the experience they offer, would be to hire more personnel and provide them with a written checklist of the things they have to provide. And be less greedy, have more quality products...

The food was most of the cases served (almost) cold, the coffee machine had troubles delivering its products due to various causes (milk finishing, water finishing, self-cleaning etc.), the food offer was not diverse, but not very tasty either. Staff is not very good with English skills (expect for the friendly foreign employees, from whitch the locals might learn from). The emails that were sent to me by the hotel contained pdf with non-functional links (I think the cancellation policies and the menu are quite important and one should be allowed to read them). The prices were not visible in a transparent manner (although the CoVid cautions, you could still make them visually available). There was always the sensation that if you do not arrive in time, you will not find a place at the tables. The cue forming every time where the food was being served reminded me of the Ceausescu regime. In the room, it sounds like the small rack/hanger communicates to the one in the other room - so it is loud when you want to rest, but your neighbor has other plans.

The 4* of this hotel are not comparable to the other 4* I have visited in RO and abroad. The only reason I would stay again at this hotel is its positioning that is perfect for hiking routes and the view from the room...
