Монастырь – нарядная Екатерининская церковь с высокой колокольней – находится на левом берегу, где сходятся две реки – Тверца и Волга.

Удивительно красивый храм Заволжья был построен в 1786 году на месте сгоревшего деревянного приходского храма.

В настоящее время вокруг церкви обустраивается самая молодая монашеская обитель Твери. Это Свято-Екатерининский монастырь, учрежденный в 1996 году, хотя намоленное место существует здесь уже около 4 веков. В основе монастыря – храм Великомученицы Екатерины, построенный в 1775-1786 годах на пожертвование императрицы Екатерины II и горожан.
