Stopped overnight in Bakersfield to break up a long drive and decided to do this in the morning. You've got to wake up early, drive through the vast emptiness, and find the right gate, but once you're there it's great. We dug at multiple sites for hours and found dozens of shark teeth; largest being about 2 inches long. You are free to leave whenever you like. The kids had a good time, but it got pretty warm in the afternoon.

Someone called it a sham. Haha! You have to know what you are looking for. If you are even just a few inches off of the bone bed, you won't find anything. I've been 6 times and the least amount that I left with was 40 teeth. Do research before you go! It'll turn a disasterous trip into a memorable one. There are many forums, Facebook groups, and Fossil Societies who can help. Just do your research.

The Google map is not correct. Sharktooth hill is north of the river. Here is a picture at sunrise.

Well my room and I just came back from that area on a hike and it was across from the soccer field at hart park..we walked our dog and we actually found places in the side of a hill..found some secretions and was like what is this and I just got home and googled it..so it a very interesting day plus we actually was able to see a king snake and was very happy about it..but mostly we got out to various places around Kern county due to my lack of physical therapy from my stroke so we walk until I can't walk no more and if we stumble upon little treasures so be it..how ever sadly in the 90s my cousin was at foothill high school and she would always go out to the shark tooth mountain and actually dig up shark teeth all day long with ber dog running around..I just want to find one shark tooth no matter how big or small..and I Also hav brain damag from my stroke and I love getting rocks and I'm just a collector of...

That's prospecting people. Don't always find something. Always been told, It's like fishing. It's not called catching. My pops knew most of the hot collecting spots. They've been prospecting for over 20+ years out there. Dad was a Crazy Geologist! A Geologist who made proper research of rocksMinerals&Fossils, his life. Personally, it's just fun being in the field. Honestly though, if you haven't done the proper research. PLEASE, please, don't go wandering off, literally looking for a stack of needles in the desert... If you want the nice shark's teeth. Find your local or Bakersfield Gem/Fossil Club. Gem shows are fun for all ages. People have already done all the hard work for you. CHEERS, Mr. Bill Carmona (RIP)❤️ Aka, The rock man, The...
