Siddaganga Mutt in Tumkur has a history of about 600 years. This Mutt was started by Goshala Siddeshswhera swamiji. Based on the principles of Basavanna the mutt was run by Sri Shivakumar Swamiji, Kayaka Jeevi (A Leading personality) without any sort of support from media, political power, advertisement and international funding. Today as well the Mutt is running under the same principles. During the initial days he use to go around the villages by walk or using horses and beg for Davasa and Dhanya (Lentils, Rice etc) and was running the Ashram. He had a lot of kindness towards the farmers and would ask about the rain and growth of davasa and dhanya with them on regular basis. He lead this by example of Saptha Sutras and taught others as well to lead this for the growth of Ashram. He was well known as “Trivida Dasohi” due to his contribution towards Gnana Dasoha, Anna Dasoha and Sneha Dasoha. He was also well known as “Nededaduva Devaru” (Walking God- Shiva), “Kayaka Yogi” and “Pavada Purusha”. Siddaganga Mutt Seer Shivakumara Swamiji Dr. Shivakumara Swamiji was born in a village known as Veerapura in Magadi Taluk of Bangalore District. He is one out of the 13 sons of Patel Honnegowda and Gangamma and born on 1908 April 1st in Bramhi Mahoortha. At the age of 5 years one of the Palm reading Guruji saw his palm and said he will cherish as a great guru and will solve many of poor people problems and serve for the nations growth. He was also a Shathaayushigalu. Karnataka Government recognized swamiji as “Shathamanada Purusha” and respected with an award of “Karnataka Ratna” for the service provided to the nation. His daily rituals start early in the morning and a typical day was like below Wake up early morning 2 AM and taking bath and doing Pooja for almost 2-3 hours Going to office for checking files, reading news papers Group prayer at 6.30 AM in the morning along with Mutt students Meeting visitors in the office Going to events, functions and to invited homes for any special occasions Visiting Mutt Agriculture land and Goshala (More than 1000 Cows and Buffalos there) His name was also been debated for “Bharatha Ratna” award and Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi took his blessings during the Karnataka visit.

The history of this math starts from early 15th century from Siddeshwara Swamigalu. Then many came, but it's very popularly known from one Swamiji in our generation Dr. Sri Sri Sri Shivakumara Maha Swamiji who took deekshe at early age and become head seer when he was 34. He started many societal welfare programs and education programs. Providing free education, food and shelter for more than 10,000 students. All credit goes to Shivakumara Maha Swamiji who consistently worked towards the development of math. So called "Nededaduva Devaru". This math is backbone for many educational institution and training starting from nursery to Engineering, next year Medical college and Reaserch Institute. Math is very vast and spacious, consists of Temple at the Top of the hill, Conventional hall, Prayer Hall, Art and museum, school and College, guest house etc... Every one in here is treated same even though it comes under Lingayat's caste. Work is worship is their motto. Even today they serve more than 15,000+ people free food. This math has an record of serving food for 40 lakh people in a single day. Very authentic feel and proud moment for kannadigas especially for Tumakuru peoples. Must visit place for everyone atleast once in their lifetime.

There is a nearby temple also on the hilltop. Free meals for every devotes. Organisation have school in other places also to help rural and economically backward but meritorious students. Many people come here just to have glimpse of the 110+ years old monk. Many renowned people had been here to meet him. The organisation is providing education at minimal cost around 10k students. They are providing medical facilities also. Engineering college is there and they are on the to have a medical college. Many their students are in abroad representing India in different fields of work. The Lingeswar temple of lord Shiva is a very good spiritual place. The beautiful stone craft and larger idol of NANDI(the holly bull) is a marvellous sight. You have climb 100+ stairs to reach the temple. Above all this is a nice spiritual place to find humanity. Many people come from different backgrounds with different wishes different thoughts but here they become equal. Come here at early morning or late night, spent a day here, you will feel it if you are lucky. 🙂
