Fresh Durian — Attraction in Singapore

I love durians & I'm quite fussy with choosing premium ones like Mao San Wang Old Tree (MSWOT), and Black Gold (BG), which I'd been buying from reputable dealers in Geylang, Katong & the likes of Ah Seng. I'm always on the look out for 'new kids on the block' so happy to say that I found one recently in Bedok called ' Fresh Durian'. I'm never a fan of online delivery & much prefer to visit the shop in person. I want to see the real fruit & try the fruit on site. Mr De or ' Ah De' as he calls himself greeted me with a big & friendly smile when he saw me. Without wasting my time, he selected 3 durian variety that I was keen to buy: MSW, MSWOT & BG and a new one & the most expensive that I'm fascinated & curious to try for the very first time: Rajah Kunnit (RK). In total, I bought 2 fruits for each category = 6.

This is my overall verdict & rating for all three separate fruit: 4.9/5 !!!

1.MSWOT. Smooth creamy texture with a good balance of sweetness & bitterness. Melts in the mouth like molten lava chocolate. Delightfully decadent. Leaves a lingering fragrance. Very meaty. Flat seed!

2.BG: Instantaneous alcoholic taste which should please any die-hard alcoholics to smithereens. Less creamy with a slightly more bitter taste so quite a joy to savour. Flat seed!

3.Rajah Kunnit: According to Ah De, this fruit is the mother of MSW! Without doubt, this is richer & creamier with a subtle combination of the goodness of MSWOT and BG. Certainly very meaty . Heavenly taste that's very robust, filling & satisfying. It's premium quality with the most sublime taste. Flat seed!

Overall, all 3 fruits by " Fresh Durian" deserve a royal seat in the Kingdom of Durians, if ever there is one. MSWOT is the young & vibrant' Prince' while BG is the sophisticated & mature Duke. The champion title will have to go to RK, the Queen of them all! This was my first time eating it. I've fallen in love with this ' Queen' but as it will burn a bigger hole in my pocket, I would have to be prudent to buy sparingly & settle for MSWOT and/or BG whenever I get into a durian binge.

Whilst the 3 fruits have met my satisfaction with high marks, I must also applaud Ah De for his wonderful customer service. In his warm & friendly manner, he recommends the best, doesn't sell hard, doesn't push you to buy. His fruits come directly from a farm in Malaysia owned by his family. Clearly explains why they are so fresh, superior & high quality! I'm so pleased to have found a new durian outlet to buy my favorite fruit. Fresh Durian' deserves accolades for outstanding quality & certainly lives up to its name! If we crave for good durians past this August season, do not fret. Ah De shared his little secret that he will have stocks past August. I'm looking forward to that. For all you ardent durian lovers out there, be brave to try the durians from ' Fresh Durians' like me. I've become a fan & that might just happen to you too....

Being a durian lover. The biggest problem is parking your car at the roadside and risk traffic fines, ripped off by fake quality durian sellers and dealing with often dirty conditions making the whole experience a 50/50 chance of getting your $100-$200 experience soured.

These guys price their product strategically with many types and varieties to meet your needs. You will definitely pay extra for less volume though very high quality.

The packaging was top class and double sealed in plastic with no smell whatsoever after an hour in the dining room.

I bought all the top 3 varieties and did a taste test.

Normal MSW was my usual durian fix and it tasted as expected after 35 years of durian tasting

The Old Tree MSW was my favourite as the flavors were literally on steroids super charging. The seeds were also smaller and the meat more robust and dense.

The Raja Kunyit which sells at a super premium was good but cannot justify the 15% price above the Old Tree which was already a class of its own. Each flesh seed also noticeably smaller though the taste was fragrant and captured the essence of the MSW variety.

Bottom line : $100 above gets you free delivery and the quality, wrapping and comfort at home feeling are worth the premium. For Those who are only paying $5 a durian type dun bother. This is a splurge but well...

Edit (25/6/25): Our 3rd order of red prawn wasn’t that great - still edible but not as WOW as what we had previously. I gave them feedback via sms and they said they would let the boss know. I typically don’t expect to hear anything back, but the boss himself actually called me to ask for more details, and even offered a free box with my next order. I really appreciate their integrity and customer-first mindset. Just give them a try, you won’t be disappointed. They really do their best to make their customers happy. I found Fresh Durian online and decided to try them out as they had many 5⭐️ ratings. The only way to see if it is legit is to try it right? So I did just that, and Oh My Yum. We ordered a box of Red Prawn and a box of MSW. Both were top quality - there was not a single bad seed to be found in the 1.6kg we ordered!! It was also the best Red Prawn we’ve had in awhile so I was super pleased that even my fussy mum had maximum enjoyment of the durian. I think the price may be higher than other shops, but you’re definitely getting good quality durian here. Thank you Fresh Durian, will come...
