I had a wonderful experience here. It was one of the highlights of my trip to Slovakia!
It didn't start that great. Even though I had translated my question with Google translate, the guy at the cash was so flustered that he seemed ready to turn me away. All I asked was to buy a ticket and ask when the next ride was. He asked if I spoke German and I said yes, a bit. So he asked his colleague to help. But the German speaking colleague said one thing to me, real fast, then ignored me! I don't expect everyone in the world to speak English. But please, show a little compassion when people are trying, especially in the tourism industry.
Anyway, the rest was great. A woman who had answered my email the day before recognised me and was super nice. One of the rafters, the one who was giving all the explanations, took the time to explain everything to me in English, which was really sweet. He didn't have to.. It was twice the work for him and I really appreciated it!
The ride is so much fun, and the views are beautiful. I found the whole thing quite thrilling, even though we got soaked by heavy rain at one point.
There are a few options for heading back to Červený Kláštor after. Unfortunately, the path along the river is closed right now. So the alternate route would take 3 hours instead of 2. But you can walk 800 metres to a hotel nearby and grab a...
Read moreThe most important and biggest attraction of this region. If you haven't been sailing on rafts, it's as if you weren't even here. Amazing experience, interesting stories behind this historic tradition and beautiful views of the surrounding nature. The oldest written documents about wood rafting come from 11th century. It became more widely used as a result of settling of the mountainous regions and development of woodcutting. It has existed as a tourist attraction since the half of 19th century. The wooden raft is a vessel made of logs, beams or boards. Besides wood transfer, it used to serve for transferring various materials, occasionally also people. The best known route is rafting down the Prielom Dunajca from the village Červený Kláštor. The end of route is near the chalet Pieniny where one can listen to goral music and taste goral specialities. The rafting season usually begins on 1st May and it finishes on...
Read moreOur experience with this service was extremely dangerous and completely unacceptable. We were taken on a boat ride that lacked the most basic safety measures—no life jackets were provided for adults, and the boat appeared overloaded. This posed a serious risk to our safety, especially as we were traveling with children.
Halfway through the trip, we were abandoned in an unfamiliar location without any assistance. We were told to find our own way back, with no transportation provided—the nearest taxi was nearly 1 kilometer away. This level of negligence, lack of responsibility, and disregard for customer safety is simply shocking.
This was not only a bad experience, but a potentially life-threatening one. It is both irresponsible and disrespectful to treat customers this way. I strongly advise others to stay away from...
