We did the full 15 km loop hike starting near Hotel FIS. In total it took us about 5.5 hours from start to finish with standard running shoes. We are faster than average and fairly experienced hikers. The first part of the hike leading up to the waterfall is relatively easy with a lot of casual hikers. From the waterfall you can ascend up towards the lakes. The first set of chain ropes at the waterfall is not difficult and we even saw a few younger children doing them. Once you get above the waterfall the amount of hikers reduces, but the landscape becomes more dramatic. The climb up the large lake is beautiful and not particularly challenging if you're in decent shape. From the large lake, if you want to complete the loop, you'll have to reach the peak (an additional 45 min climb or so) and climb over the craggy top peak using the chain ropes. This is the most difficult part of the entire hike, and the halfway point, but it's not too difficult or steep. There are plenty of places to step without much danger, but I don't recommend it with rain or snow because it will be too slippery. Once you've crossed over the top, you immediately start descending with beautiful views over more lakes and the valley below. The descent is fairly relaxed with no notable difficult points. Overall it's a long hike but well worth the effort!! Be sure to pack water and a few snacks, and also a light jacket or sweater because it can get overcast and windy...
Read moreA beautiful hike in the Tatras that continues from the base where all the ski schools are located. I went in March for a lovely 5am hike in the snow and highly advise suitable footwear, I did it in trainers and you could tell it wasn’t trekked often at the time with the depths of snow and the covered paths! There are many steep ledges which obviously offer some danger in the snow but 100% worth it for the beautiful views at the top… The waterfall was frozen so I will certainly return in summer but was absolutely beautiful nonetheless 💖
Update: Returned when the waterfall was still there and it was just as...
Read moreBeautiful waterfall. It takes approx. 1hr to get the for experienced hiker from Strbské pleso (yellow trail). It's a good place to go with smaller kids as a full-day hike. There is a trail climbing it from the left side (partially supported by chains, but not too dangerous - 10yo kids climbed it last time we were there) that allows you to see the upper part of the walley called Mlýnická dolina. Rest of the hike uphill is harder and only suggested if you plan to go through Bystrá Lávka pass that leads you to...
