Our visit to Bratislava Zoo with our two children (ages 8 and 5) cost €27 and provided a memorable, yet thought-provoking experience. Given that it was winter, many of the animals—particularly those from warmer climates, such as the African species—were kept in captivity under conditions far from their natural habitats. While we do not personally support the confinement of wild animals, we chose to visit as a way to help our children understand the reality of these animals’ lives. We wanted them to see firsthand how these creatures are removed from their natural environments and kept in enclosures, gaining insight into where they truly belong and how captivity affects them.
I encourage other parents to share the full, unfiltered reality of such places with their children. Perhaps, if not today, then someday, a generation will grow up inspired to end this heartbreaking practice. This is not a critique of the hardworking staff or animal caregivers; rather, it is a call for compassion and reflection on what freedom truly means for all beings.
In the end, it was an experience rich in both emotions and education for our children. With about a two-hour walk, we were able to explore the entire facility comfortably. I hope that by sharing this review, we can contribute, even if just a little, to a future where animals are...
Read moreIt seems that Bratislava zoo doesn't want visitors during cold period of the year. I went there with 3 kids to support it and was very disappointed.
My idea was to mix indoor and outdoor activities, so kids won't get too cold, but... In the pavilliona the stench of animal urine was unbearable... So we didn't spend much time there. I would expect some kind of ventilation to work there, not only for visitors, but for animals too!
Almost all the cafes were closed. 1 near big slide was open, but they had light off, so if I didn't see other people with hotdogs, I'd had to take my kids to Cubicon for food.
Now, extra topic is changing table in the toilet. It's just next to the entrance door on a room without heating. I couldn't even change my child there, decided to take a risk oh her getting wet...
What we really liked is the pavilion with reptiles. But again, some animals are way to high for children to see, even provided steps don't help!
And giraffes 🦒🦒🦒! They were indoors, so we could have a very close look at the them.
Please consider everything I mentioned I'd you are thinking of visiting zoo during winter with toddlers and...
Read moreGenerally a nice zoo with many animals. It's not the best zoo I've been to, but I guess it's the best to I've been to in Slovakia (full disclosure: I haven't been to Košice and I don't know if they have a zoo).
It's a pretty spacious zoo. If you come at a good time, your can see a lot. Also, if you want a zoo that you don't need the whole day to see, then this is a good pick. When compared to the zoos in Zlín and Prague, it is smaller, but at least you can see everything at an average pace.
There are places to eat and spaces for children. There's even a petting zoo although we didn't go there with my daughter.
I got yelled at a bit by a staff member because he thought I was touching the bisons. I was OK with that, because I understand it really looked as if I was touching them although I wasn't. They came very close to me and my daughter and we were admiring them.
A shop keeper told us a few stories about the ostriches and how they behave with staff members. They were very nice to us in general. So we had a great experience I'd say.
Finally, I'd say the prices were reasonable in general, whether it be tickets or the...
