Amazing place with soul and history!

Vlkolínec is a village whose origins date back to 1376, and its name comes from wolves (vlk) that used to prowl the area. The wooden bell tower from 1770 is worthy of attention - built without a single nail!

Over 40 colorful wooden houses from the 18th and 19th centuries have been preserved throughout the village, and each color once had its own meaning. A place included on the UNESCO list and completely deservedly so - you can feel the atmosphere of the old Carpathians here, see how people lived when smartphones were just a dream of futurists.

Perfect for a walk, photos and a quick reset from the modern world. I recommend it to every fan of history...

The Village itself is interesting to see and the view to the surrounding hills is great. Also few English information signs are available. However, the way everything is organized just leaves a bad taste. First you pay 1€ for a bad sand field parking and 2€ to see into a few rooms in one of the old houses. The toilet is hidden in one house but the key you need to get from another and again pay 0.50€. When going into some other house someone is again trying to charge you something. Most people working there are not really service minded but instead the feeling is everybody are trying to get some more small coins out from you. Why don't just charge a real entrance fee and...

6km from Ruzomberok (a 3km detour from the main road between Ruzomberok and Banska Bystrica) lies on a hill this remarkable village with traditional colorful log houses. Walk around within 30 minutes or make a short hike up the nearest hill and spend couple of hours. In the village you can see a wooden belfry from the 18th century as well as the baroque chapel. Houses No. 16 and 17 are turned into a folk museum with all the instruments of daily life and work. The scenery would fit nicely to a historical movie from rural area. Not all the roads, paths or parking lot are paved so beware of mud after rain or in winter time. There is also a small restaurant if you need a...

It is a nice place, especially the nature, hills and forests around the village are very beautiful. But the vibe of the village itself was weird, as least for me... It starts with parking lots, where on the left side of the road you can park for 1.5€/day but on the right side it is just 1€/day. Of course there are two different cashiers, each for one parking lot, which is very confusing. The weird mood continues with excursions where again, you have to purchase different tickets to enter different buildings. On top of that, half of the houses are private anyway, so you cannot enter at all... As a tourist I didn't feel as welcomed there as on the other similar places I visited.
