I visited many museums of all kinds in my life and I must say that this little town museum is a nice gem. It lies hidden from the main road but there are signs that will lead you straight to it. You can leave your car on a parking place beside the main street, near the bridge over the river Hubelj. From there it is only a 2 minute walk to the museum building. It is opened on weekends and the entrance fee is just 2 EUR per adult (december 2018). Of course I recommend the visit to everybody, but those who love fossils and roman history should definitely not miss it. The exhibition on the ground floor is dedicated to the fossils that were found mostly in the area around the town but also in some other parts of the country. The collection ia pretty big and they have some marvelous examples of shells, snails and corals. You can also take a look at different fossils under the microscope. The exhibition on the upper floor is dedicated to the Roman times, when Ajdovščina was a site of an important Roman fort and the small town of Castra. The exhibited remains and artefacts were found in the town area. Unfortunately some remains are not original, but nevertheless the exhibition is very nice and it helps you to feel the experience of those times long gone.
