Vogel lies within the Triglav National Park, at the head of the Bohinj valley. You can reach the lower Vogel cable car station on foot by following one of the maintained trails along the north or south shores of Lake Bohinj. You can also access it by means of public transport, the Bohinj tourist boat or by car, which can be parked in our free parking area. Vogel cable car then takes you to the upper cable car station.
The upper Vogel cable car station, located at 1,535 metres, greets visitors with spectacular panoramic views of Komna, the Triglav mountains and all the way to the Kamnik and Savinja Alps. This is why Vogel is an excellent choice for anyone who wishes to admire the views of the Alps .
Vogel is also an ideal starting point for those looking for ideas for shorter and longer hiking tours. he Julian Alps (in Slovenian Julijske Alpe ) are a mountain range of the Southern Limestone Alps that stretch from northeastern Italy to Slovenia, where they rise to 2,864 m at Mount Triglav, the highest peak in Slovenia. A large part of the Julian Alps is included in Triglav National Park. The second highest peak of the range, the 2,755 m high Jôf di Montasio, lies in Italy.
The Julian Alps cover an estimated 4,400 km2 (of which 1,542 km2 lies in Italy). They are located between the Sava Valley and Canale Valley. They are divided into the Eastern and Western Julian Alps.
The Julian Alps were known in antiquity as Alpe Iulia. The range was named after Julius Caesar of the Julian clan, perhaps due to a road built by Julius Caesar and completed...
Read moreVogel Ski slopes are in the Triglav National Park (TNP), above the picturesque Lake Bohinj. Access is via the cable car (500mtrs) which takes you up to the main skiing area - approx 1500 to 1850mtrs. It's not a resort for advanced skiers (no Black Runs), but there are plenty of Blues and Reds, plus off piste skiing for those that like Ski touring. There are ample Cafes and Restaurants on the slopes, and the pistes are well maintained and patrolled. All the snow is natural (artificial snow is not allowed in the TNP), but in 20 years, I have never seen the resort without snow in the ski season. With 22 Kms of runs, the resort is small compared to other European resorts, but on the plus side it's relatively cheap, not too busy during weekdays, and the people are friendly and helpful, as are the Ski Instructors, all of whom speak English. All in all, a fantastic place for a family ski holiday, or a memorable place to learn to Ski. There are plenty of reasonably priced Hotels and Apartments nearby, and you can either drive to the slope and use the free car park, or use the free Ski Bus. Nearby Bohinjska Bistrica has a Swimming pool and Sauna at the Eco Hotel - both are open to non residents. Nearest Airport is Ljubljana, which is about a 50 minutes drive from the Bohinj valley. Shared or Private Taxi service is readily available from the Airport. More details at https://vogel.si/en/ski-lifts-and-piste/ and...
Read moreBeautiful nature, but personnel and management are a manifestation of balkan behavior in worst possible meaning. Go to Austria and learn some basic skills how to treat visitors. Just a couple of observations: 1) A liftchair should start at 8:30, but this guys is eating his sandwich and smoking cigarette, laughing at the crowd. Easily starting at 8:45; 2) It's snowy and management decides to stop early, at 13:00, although we payed full day ticket, no refund (there was no wind, just small number of visitors). The operator stops the chairlift at 12:45. 3) The lift operator is sitting all the time in his cabin, although the lift is nasty and every child has problems with it, falling down etc. Guy just sits inside, ignores the situation. When he needs to yell at somebody, he's the first person outside; 4) Lift operators are nagging all the time, no smiles, I don't know why they are doing this job. Its really difficult to be on the snow, with great views and even getting paid for it, right? 5) The gondola from the valley is operating officially till 18:00, but since it was snowy the cashier just decided to call it a day at 15:00. We had backpacks on upper station and had to "beg" the gondola operator to take us up. Unbelievable. 6) There were some technical issues with Zadnji vogel lift, which is the only proper lift for more demanding skiers. The lift was not working for a whole week....
