We had an unforgettable Saturday afternoon at Struisbaai Harbour, where we encountered the legendary Parrie the Stingray. This gentle giant, a short-tail stingray, has apparently been a beloved presence in the harbour for over 30 years, often seen gliding gracefully through the clear waters .​

What struck us most was Parrie's immense size and calm demeanor. Despite the crowd's excitement and the friendly jostling for the best photo spots, Parrie remained unfazed, moving serenely through the shallow waters. It was awe-inspiring to see such a majestic creature up close, especially one that usually graces the screens of documentaries or aquariums.​

I stopped here on the way back from the southern tip. Had ice cream and went to look at the stingrays. -I first went to the long dock with the light house at the end, looking in the water, but saw nothing, no stingrays. -then i went to the small dock in the middle of the harbor, thinking i wouldnt see anything, and as soon as i get out there, I see a large black shadow moving around, as well as others. -There was a group of people processing a fishing catch/washing it and water was running into the ocean near the dock, possibly with fish smell, attracting the stingrays at that time, but there was a few of them...

Parrie is a huge attraction at this busy harbour in Struisbaai. He swims around in the shallow water near the jetty to the delight of visitors, and often brings a friend. Like all creatures, he does his own thing and today we did not see him. We have seen him on our other visits though. Really worth checking in if you're in the area...he is quite...
