Oude Molen Eco Village — Attraction in Cape Town Ward 53

My group and I had a horrible experience at this place yesterday, 30 December 2023, and because of that I wouldn't book there again or recommend anyone to go there. We were made out to be liars by a old man who should be retired called Amien, he had attitude, was so rude and needs a course on people skills. He is a big liar and did not help us in any way. He needs to go home and play with his grandchildren because he was unprofessional. Secondly, I did not like that there were lots of drunk people and that the place even allows alcohol because it makes those who don't drink, their whole time there, unpleasant and that's what happened yesterday. Cut out the alcohol, completely. Thirdly, all those rules, our kids didn't know if they were even allowed to swim or just stand in the water because the rules are stupid, it's like having a baysitter watch your every move. That sucked and they didn't really enjoy themselves. They couldn't even stand by the wall when they got out of the pool. The pool was also too small and another pool for the children should be added. Fourth, our hut had an old chip board table thing that was broken and there were alot of flies which was very unpleasant. I thought we were going to cut raw fish there since it looked like that home made table was used for that purpose. The last thing is the braai, those who don't come to braai by the huts, all the smoke and ashes of those who do come to braai blows in the others huts which was also not nice. The braai should be completely seperate from everyone, there on the grass where the drunk people are. I feel like I wasted my money on this place, but now I know to never go there again. If anyone speaks about going to this place, I will tell...

Came across the Oude Molen website. It looked very interesting. Checked Google if it was open around lunchtime on Mondays. Yes! Decided to pop in for a cup of coffee, maybe more, maybe purchase some fresh produce. Expected a vibrant creative arty inspiring vibe. The reality? Its mostly a dump. Dilapidated buildings. Except for a bright blue swimming pool surrounded by industrial vibacrete. Not much "eco" to be seen, but a lot of car wrecks and other ugly discarded junk. As visitors we were studiously ignored. People driving around the compound with cigarettes hanging out their mouths provided the ambience. The place, and the location has absolutely enormous potential. For an initiative that started back in 1997 its certainly going nowhere fast. A depressing disappointment. The place should be handed over to an initiative that will do something...

The place was over all a fun experience but when I singed up for an outride I was asked my riding level when I told them I was an experienced rider I was met with a dirty look and made me feel rather unwelcome. Just before I was about to go on the outride I was told I wasn't aloud to canter because I wasn't "experienced enough" I rode a horse called pocket rocket and the guy that took me out for the outride said he could tell by the way I sat on the horse alone he knew I was experienced therefore he took me for a canter.im sure people would appreciate more...
