……The last time that we visited here was in January 2000, the entrance still looks the same but now before you get to the gate an attendant will first ask all to submit their names and take each occupant in the vehicles Temperature Just a warning to all South Africans who are planning on visiting here to please make sure that they have their S.A. ID’s on hand because if you don’t you will have to pay the Foreigner’s Price of R 385.00 to enter. A senior South African citizen can even qualify for a seniors discount. The nature reserve is really beautiful-lii picturesque as the whole landscape is in full bloom and lashes-lii scenic after a good winter rain-ii season. When you arrive at the main parking area you will immediate-lii notice all the new extensions that have been done over the years. The “Two Oceans restaurant which has a love-lii section for outside seating over looking the ocean. The gift shop (Logo Shop) which is full-lii stocked with all the normal tourist goodies like Post-cards, Local arts & crafts, etc, etc and the Funicular (FlyingDutchman) Cable drawn tram running on rails. Just for the fun of it we took the tram up to the top it was indeed an intriguing experience but very noisy. All over the reserve the staff-members are friend-lii, polite and helpful. The reserve is well maintained and is world-class. Even the rest-rooms are clean and tidy with hand sanitiser at the entrances. The shop and restaurant also are Covid-19 compliant with lots of posters encouraging visitors to practice good habits of wearing mask and spraying their hands when entering and leaving the premises. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic all the “Binoculars” at the look-out stations are covered up and are not operational, but still even with the naked eyes the views are awesome-lii spectacular especial-lii on a day like today with the magical weather we are experiencing. On every pathway the “Fynbos” is in full bloom making the walk-about true-lii enjoyable to be surrounded by a kaleidoscope of magnificent colours. Lots of various lizard species were out baking in the sun and enjoying the brilliant sunshine. The pathway to the end of Cape Point is very well kept. It was a surreal experience to be standing at this place at the end of the African Continent gazing out at the endless expense of ocean of waters………PS! We did not see any wild life except for a few ostriches in the far distance…..Oh! On our way out we passed a troop of baboons devouring a yellow Protea bush eating the flowers as if it was dessert. This is a must visit place when in Cape Town not only for visitors from overseas and other Provences but more so for the local people of Cape Town….

An Unforgettable Experience at Cape Point Cape Point is an absolute gem and a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to South Africa. From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the breathtaking beauty that surrounds this place. The stunning rugged cliffs, crashing waves, and panoramic views kept me in awe throughout my visit. The well-maintained facilities, knowledgeable guides, and informative signage all contributed to making my experience at Cape Point truly memorable. The visitor center was well-equipped and provided a wealth of information about the history, wildlife, and natural wonders that make Cape Point so unique. The highlight of my visit was definitely reaching the Cape Point Lighthouse. The exhilarating hike up to the top was rewarded with awe-inspiring vistas that stretched as far as the eye could see. The sense of accomplishment and wonder as I stood at the edge of the African continent is something that I'll cherish forever. To make the most of my visit, I recommend taking the Flying Dutchman Funicular to the viewpoint, as it provides a convenient and enjoyable way to reach the top. Exploring the walking trails and taking in the diverse flora and fauna is an absolute must as well. Overall, my experience at Cape Point exceeded all expectations. The natural beauty, rich history, and incredible views are unparalleled. Whether you're a nature enthusiast, history buff, or simply seeking an awe-inspiring adventure, Cape Point should be at the top of your list. I can confidently give Cape Point a 5-star rating and highly recommend it to anyone visiting South Africa. Thank you, Cape Point, for an unforgettable experience!!!!

On 12th of March 1488, Portuguese explorer Bartolomeu Dias reached, where no European had reached before – the southern-most tip of Africa. As he looked to make a turn from the cold waters of the Atlantic to the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, things began to look rough – possibly from the interaction of two currents at two different temperatures. “Cabo das Tormentas!” – he exclaimed. Meaning “Cape of Storms” in Portuguese. “Nonsense!” – exclaimed King John II of Portugal few days later as news of Dias’s feat reached him. “This has opened a sea-route to India and the Far East. I hereby rename this - Cabo da Boa Esperança!” And that is how the cliff got its famous name which has stuck by all these years – The Cape of Good Hope. A decade later, Vasco Da Gama navigated around it to finally reach Calicut on 20th May 1498. Dias, quite ironically perished in a storm on 29th May 1500 on the very cape he had so aptly named. In February of 2016 when I got married, my wife and me both simply did not find a way to go for a honeymoon till December of that year. Finally, destiny led us to South Africa, where Cape Town (which derives its name from the Cape of Good Hope) was our home for the first few days. Needless to say, a visit to the Cape Point Nature Reserve which gives an unadulterated view of the Cape of Good Hope was a must. The magnificent view of the South Atlantic Ocean and the Indian Ocean meeting each other at a point of immense historic significance – took our breath away.
